Summary

World War II brings together six remarkable young flight nurses, who face the challenges of war and its many heartbreaks and victories as unsung heroes, in this inspiring novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel。

Audrey Parker's life changes forever when Pearl Harbor is attacked on December 7, 1941。 Her brother, a talented young Navy pilot, had been stationed there, poised to fulfill their late father's distinguished legacy。 Fresh out of nursing school with a passion and a born gift for helping others, both Audrey and her friend Lizzie suddenly find their nation on the brink of war。 Driven to do whatever they can to serve, they enlist in the Army and embark on a new adventure as flight nurses。

Risking their lives on perilous missions, they join the elite Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron and fly into enemy territory almost daily to rescue wounded soldiers from the battlefield。 Audrey and Lizzie make enormous sacrifices to save lives alongside an extraordinary group of nurses: Alex, who longs to make a difference in the world; Louise, a bright mind who faced racial prejudice growing up inthe South; Pru, a selfless leader with a heart of gold; and Emma, whose confidence and grit push her to put everything on the line for her patients。

Even knowing they will not achieve any rank and will receive little pay for their efforts, the "Flying Angels" will give their all in the fight for freedom。 They serve as bravely and tirelessly as the men they rescue on the front lines, in daring airlifts, and are eternally bound by their loyalty to one another。 Danielle Steel presents a sweeping, stunning tribute to these incredibly courageous women, inspiring symbols of bravery and valor。

Fantastic book, a different theme than the latest books。Much like her earlier novels。 I wish she would write more like this

Great book! Especially to be reading on the 80 anniversary of Pearl Harbor!!

This may be my favorite DS book in several years! WWII Historical fiction told from a different perspective, Nurses working on the elite medical air evacuation transport squadron。 Just as I got a bit invested and attached to a couple of characters in this book, more we're added in, and then more。 It was interesting to watch their friendships develop despite vast differences in their backgrounds。 A different perspective on a WWII novel, one that I found particularly interesting! The 1st DS book I have read in a long time that did not feature characters of privileged backgrounds who went through hard times, but for whom money afforded them privileges to make all well。 This book was more realistic, more believable, and more difficult to read because it is so believable! If you are expecting a happily ever after for all of the characters in the book then you'll be in for a shock。 There is some happily ever after but there is so much heartbreak before that。 This book is truly realistic and really well written and by far my DS favorite in years! I highly recommend this book❤ 。。。more

Very good book。 It was a good story。 A lot of characters but it was so interesting。 I love her books。 Read it on my phone。 Read it after my shingles shot。

Linda

Good story although reading about war is never enjoyable but history is important。

I read a lot of historical fiction and like the way authors set the stage and incorporate people into the time periods。 While I enjoyed getting to know these six women, I felt that it was more about them and less about the war; each one sees some combat, suffers some losses, but mostly they meet men and fall in love。 I did learn quite a bit about the Flying Angels but wanted a little more。I received a copy from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。

I typically like all of this author’s books but this one seemed to drag for me。 Perhaps the cast of characters was very long and I found myself flipping pages back and forth to connect the dots。 I was only going to give this a 3 but after reading an a incredible ending, I bumped it up to a 4。

Debbie

Loved how it dealt with death, loss, segregation and racism。 One of her better books。

I've read every one of Danielle Steel's books - and there are many。 The "formula" sameness of her stories offers me a break from some of the more serious books I read。 She writes love stories that take twists, turns and tears but always have happy endings。 They are curl-up in front of a fire on a Sunday afternoon books - comfort stories。 That's why I didn't like this one。 The story was a noble one but the grittiness is not what I want from her。 Lot's of characters in the beginning of the book, f I've read every one of Danielle Steel's books - and there are many。 The "formula" sameness of her stories offers me a break from some of the more serious books I read。 She writes love stories that take twists, turns and tears but always have happy endings。 They are curl-up in front of a fire on a Sunday afternoon books - comfort stories。 That's why I didn't like this one。 The story was a noble one but the grittiness is not what I want from her。 Lot's of characters in the beginning of the book, few lived till the end。 Disappointing。 。。。more

Back in the 80's and 90's I read and loved all Danielle Steel's books。 Unfortunately this one didn't measure up。 I picked it up because of the subject matter。 Love anything to do with the wars and I haven't read a lot about the American side of it。 This could have been a great story。 The nurses of the Evac section of the war were brave women and I enjoyed learning about what they did。 The characters were too much for me。 They were all extremely beautiful and never did anything wrong。 Too perfect Back in the 80's and 90's I read and loved all Danielle Steel's books。 Unfortunately this one didn't measure up。 I picked it up because of the subject matter。 Love anything to do with the wars and I haven't read a lot about the American side of it。 This could have been a great story。 The nurses of the Evac section of the war were brave women and I enjoyed learning about what they did。 The characters were too much for me。 They were all extremely beautiful and never did anything wrong。 Too perfect。 The men who came into their lives were much the same。 It was all a bit saccharin sweet。 There was also too much show and not tell。 I feel I only got the outline of each character and not the dept。 I'm done now with this author's books。 。。。more

Great read as always。 A good insight to the nurses if WW11。 The only reason I gave it a four was that the ending left me wanting more。 You learned of the lives of the main characters, some of their losses and deaths。 Then the war ends, and as each of the remaining find love, you want to know did it actually work out!

This was a wonderful book on the Flying Angels。 Nurses who flew into combat to help wounded soldiers and get them to the hospital。 It was an enjoyable book

I was somewhat disappointed。 I enjoyed the story, characters and plot。 What bothered me are the following:- typos - I HATE typos- this book seems to have been written by more than one person, in the middle of the book the style completely changed- one chapter was practically a duplicate of the chapter before itFirst half of the book was much better than second half Regardless, this is still a nice story about brave and strong women。

Jenny Littlewood

What an amazing book! Danielle Steel at her best。 Flying angels is exactly what these incredibly brave and courageous women are indeed。 I loved how this story flowed it made me cry at many stages throughout the book。 Such loss and heartbreak during the war, we can easily forget it, but DS has brought this story to life again。 One of her best books!! Definitely recommend with lots of tissues。

I I honestly don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't exactly this, yes it's a story about war and friendship but I was expecting more of a romance angle。 But this was more depressing than I was expecting。 I I honestly don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't exactly this, yes it's a story about war and friendship but I was expecting more of a romance angle。 But this was more depressing than I was expecting。 。。。more

I enjoyed the topic of this book, but the writing is terrible。 Danielle Steel used to write much better, now I feel like she is just churning out books to meet a publishing quota。 Like all her recent books, I find the story stilted, and every chapter feels like a character introduction, and point form。 I would love to read more stories about the Flying Angels, just by other authors。

Merry

It was ok。 Predictable plot, but I enjoyed the historical aspect。

Terri Mastraieni

War NursesThis book is one of Danielle Steels finest。 You will fall in love with the characters。 This book is also a history lesson - World War 2。 I was sad when this ended, I wanted more。

Roberta Abt

Wonderful story。 Hard to put down。 A story hard to put down。 Loved following the nurses through their missions their hart breaks , bonding becoming a family to each other。 Also, their struggles with love and not wanting to commit to plans due to war。 A wonderful story of brave women。

Beautiful I appreciated and loved this story。 I felt like I was there with the “angels” I cried with each loss。 Life is too precious to have snobbery, prejudices, selfishness, etc

Great historical novel! Good education on our military nurses and we’ll written!

This is an author that I never hesitate to pick up。 I have been reading her books for years and years。 I enjoy how well written they are。 They are well rounded stories that pull me in from the beginning。 This book is no different。 The characters are unique, creative and keep the story engaging。 This is a book that I had a hard time putting down。 I enjoyed the growth of both the characters and also the plot。 A story about women in WW2 and is both inspiring and couragious。 This is a must read stor This is an author that I never hesitate to pick up。 I have been reading her books for years and years。 I enjoy how well written they are。 They are well rounded stories that pull me in from the beginning。 This book is no different。 The characters are unique, creative and keep the story engaging。 This is a book that I had a hard time putting down。 I enjoyed the growth of both the characters and also the plot。 A story about women in WW2 and is both inspiring and couragious。 This is a must read story and I highly recommend this book and this author。 。。。more

Not Danielle Steel’s Best WorkPotentially interesting story line but it never goes beyond superficial。 Too many characters and a predictable plot…。and of course all the angels find the man of their dreams。 Boring read。

Another quick read about young women from different backgrounds who become flight nurses in England in 1942。I have read a great deal of historical fiction about World War II。 This is one subject I knew very little about and found the story quite good。3。5/5

Good read

A good book on the struggles of nurses and the many reasons as why people choose to become nurses。I liked this book as I could relate to what DS was trying to say。

Set during World War II this is a uplifting, romantic and heart breaking all in one story。 Four girls and two from Britain are members of a team of nurses that risk their lives to help soldiers during the war。 We get to look into their lives and how they the war effects them。 This is definitely one of Danielle Steel's better books。 I loved the story。 Set during World War II this is a uplifting, romantic and heart breaking all in one story。 Four girls and two from Britain are members of a team of nurses that risk their lives to help soldiers during the war。 We get to look into their lives and how they the war effects them。 This is definitely one of Danielle Steel's better books。 I loved the story。 。。。more
