“Every sparkling diamond has been put under pressure。 I am no exception。”I was surprised by The Pursuit of Porsha。 I didn’t expect it to be so candid and casual, but Porsha set a sincere tone from page one。 My first introduction to Porsha Williams was about 4 years ago on the show The New Celebrity Apprentice, where she proved herself a boss。 She showed great drive and business savvy。 Then I began noticing her in interviews etc。, and then on The Real Housewives of Atlanta。 (I didn’t watch the sh “Every sparkling diamond has been put under pressure。 I am no exception。”I was surprised by The Pursuit of Porsha。 I didn’t expect it to be so candid and casual, but Porsha set a sincere tone from page one。 My first introduction to Porsha Williams was about 4 years ago on the show The New Celebrity Apprentice, where she proved herself a boss。 She showed great drive and business savvy。 Then I began noticing her in interviews etc。, and then on The Real Housewives of Atlanta。 (I didn’t watch the show, I just knew of her being on the show and saw her on talk shows and podcasts。) I have to say, prior to writing this book, she revealed only a small portion of who she is—as the granddaughter of Civil Rights Leader Rev。 Hosea Williams, businesswoman, entrepreneur, entertainer, mother, etc。—hiding the more personal and painful parts from public。 In this memoir/biography, she is raw, sharing the previously hidden side of her life with honesty and candor。 I appreciate her vulnerable and engaging writer’s voice。I was especially moved by Porsha’s revelations about her childhood and teen years where she suffered with severe depression and anxiety。 She talks about her father’s infidelities, punishments, illness, and death, and the strong bond of love and protection she shared with him despite those misgivings。 These experiences during her younger years, unknowingly at the time, shaped her self-perception and gave her a warped image of what to expect from romantic relationships and relationships in general。 Thankfully, she was raised by a strong and wise mother who taught her to always turn to Jesus when she needed help and guidance, which I feel built the foundation of her inner tenacity and fortitude。There’s so much more to Porsha’s pursuit to find the best version of herself, way too much to reveal here, so I’ll close this review by saying I was moved by Porsha’s openness。 This book is inspiring。 Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book。 My review was not influenced。 。。。more
