Summary

Lovable, furry old Grover is distressed to learn that there's a monster at the end of this book! He begs readers not to turn the pages, but of course kids feel they just have to see this monster for themselves。 Grover is astonished--and toddlers will be delighted--to discover who is really the monster at the end of the book!

The book that shaped every single thing about me in every way and I am grateful for that。

Never saw the twist ending coming, but I was 7。

I read this book multiple times a day as a kid and loved it。 It is such an interesting book for young readers and uses multiple metafictive devices that draw readers in。 Being a part of the story for kids is so important and that is why I loved this book so much。

Modren Fantasy K-3rd GradeA good interactive book can be somewhat hard to come by, but this one is fantastic。 With the old, lovable Sesame Street character, Grover, this book is playful and so fun for a wide range of ages。 Even now, I found it so funny and will definitely be pulling this off the shelf again one day。

I adore this book & came upon it at a rental home in Canaan Valley。 Had to read it to the entire family - youngest - 30 years old。 Still love it。

The Monster at the End of This Book is a children’s picture book written by Jon Stone and illustrated by Michael Smollin, aimed towards very young children。 Throughout the book, Grover makes several attempts to prevent the reader from reaching the end to avoid the monster。 The illustrations of this book are colorful and effective for showing the emotions that Grover is experiencing, capturing the attention of children with the bright blue fuzzy monster and amusing them with melodramatic response The Monster at the End of This Book is a children’s picture book written by Jon Stone and illustrated by Michael Smollin, aimed towards very young children。 Throughout the book, Grover makes several attempts to prevent the reader from reaching the end to avoid the monster。 The illustrations of this book are colorful and effective for showing the emotions that Grover is experiencing, capturing the attention of children with the bright blue fuzzy monster and amusing them with melodramatic responses。 As the story progresses and the reader destroys more of Grover’s contraptions (including a brick wall), the pages appear more and more tattered, further showing the child that Grover’s statement is true: they do make a terrible mess。 Many of the words are also illustrated, showing children different tones that Grover uses。 Some of the words are written in very large and bold letters, while others are written in smaller text that looks more print。 This book would be effective when used with children who are in the toddler to kindergarten age range; the simple words could be useful practice when first learning to read, especially if this is a book the child already knows from their parents reading it to them。October 5, 2021 。。。more

I loved this book as a child and still enjoy reading this today。 It is goofy and exciting and teaches us not to be afraid of the unknown。

I grew up petitioning every adult that I could to read this book to me。 While I was excited to introduce my son to this text, I hesitate to give it 5-stars because the Sesame Street industry is a slippery slope of child consumerism。

It is an excellent experience; I really liked it。 The ilustration and the momentum that created of you have the paper book, but alas, I read it as electronic version。 Also a I found out that this MONSTER is one character that were adopted in the Arabic version named عالم سمسم for Sesame St。And I guess I fall in love with this genre!

Oh, this DOES TOO count towards my reading challenge。 Quiet, you。 People kept talking about this on Twitter and although I'm old enough to have read the book when it was originally published, I ended up grabbing a copy。 It's still hilarious。 And to be a boring adult for a moment, there's something to be said for the way it demonstrates how to build tension in a story (which is why it kept coming up in Twitter discussions)。 It was great fun and really begs to be read out loud。 Maybe I'll try read Oh, this DOES TOO count towards my reading challenge。 Quiet, you。 People kept talking about this on Twitter and although I'm old enough to have read the book when it was originally published, I ended up grabbing a copy。 It's still hilarious。 And to be a boring adult for a moment, there's something to be said for the way it demonstrates how to build tension in a story (which is why it kept coming up in Twitter discussions)。 It was great fun and really begs to be read out loud。 Maybe I'll try reading it to one of the cats。 。。。more

The Monster at the end of this Book is a classic that was my favorite when I was young。 Although it is a very simple read, the message it provides is a good topic。 It brings the idea to not judge a book by it's cover。 It walks through with Grover trying to stop the reader from turning the page。 Warning them multiple times that there is a monster at the end of the book。 As the reader gets closer Grover tries to stop them more。 However, once you get to the end you learn that Grover is the "monster The Monster at the end of this Book is a classic that was my favorite when I was young。 Although it is a very simple read, the message it provides is a good topic。 It brings the idea to not judge a book by it's cover。 It walks through with Grover trying to stop the reader from turning the page。 Warning them multiple times that there is a monster at the end of the book。 As the reader gets closer Grover tries to stop them more。 However, once you get to the end you learn that Grover is the "monster" at the end of the book。 This can teach students to not judge other's based on what you hear。 。。。more

Name 5 better fourth-wall-breaking books about the futile barriers we establish to guard ourselves from self-exploration starring Grover。 I'll wait。 Name 5 better fourth-wall-breaking books about the futile barriers we establish to guard ourselves from self-exploration starring Grover。 I'll wait。 。。。more

The classic, hilarious wonderful Grover is scared of Monsters and he does everything he can think of to stop us turning the page so we don’t get to the end where the a monster is。 Grover is his funny, over-dramatic self, exaggerating absolutely everything as he does。 My Favourite Sesame Street Book as a kid 💙

Freya

It’s a cute and interactive book, but I just ADORE the illustration in it! Similar to an old comic book, and full of life and color!! Well done Mike Smollin!

A few weeks ago I asked on Twitter “What’s one book you loved as a kid which still sits on your bookshelf today?” This is my answer。 This is the exact copy, too。 Complete with the 89 cent price tag in the corner。 My Grover voice sounds a bit Pee-Wee Hermany but I do my best。 The interactive nature of this book (along with books like Press Here) is what inspired "Awesome is Everywhere", too。 A book for people of all ages。 A few weeks ago I asked on Twitter “What’s one book you loved as a kid which still sits on your bookshelf today?” This is my answer。 This is the exact copy, too。 Complete with the 89 cent price tag in the corner。 My Grover voice sounds a bit Pee-Wee Hermany but I do my best。 The interactive nature of this book (along with books like Press Here) is what inspired "Awesome is Everywhere", too。 A book for people of all ages。 。。。more

My favorite children’s book ever。 It’s just the best。 Do yourself a favor and don’t get the sequel “Another Monster at the End of this Book” with Elmo。 It’s a disappointment。
