"I just finished reading Bright Line Eating—every single word。 This book is not like anything else out there。 Not even close。 Dr。 Thompson has illuminated the reasons why so many of us are so addicted to today’s food supply and why obesity is so common。 Most importantly, she outlines the path to freedom, thinness, and health。 Freedom from the tyranny of the scale, of fast foods, of carb addiction。 All of it。 This book is totally different—and if you read it—every word—like I did, your life will be changed。 A light bulb of ‘aha’ will go off in your brain。 This book is based not only on the personal experiences of thousands, but also backed up by solid brain science that has never been presented like this before。 And I’m willing to bet you’ll be eager to start Bright Line Eating yourself so you too can start ‘living happy, thin, and free。"

I first heard Susan Peirce Thompson speak through the Food Revolution and burst into tears when she said that food is a harder drug to quit than crack。 I've long felt this way in my gut for a long time and never had another soul understand this concept, so when I heard someone say it out loud, the impact was overwhelming。 Finally someone else related to my experience。 I've been listening to SPT's vlogs non-stop and absolutely devoured this book。 It was an amazing read and I can't wait to read it again。 I can feel that this is something big。

The science here was interesting。 A way of seeing how our brains deal with food。 I can’t wait to give this a try。

There is no doubt that if I was able to stop eating sugar and flour I would be thin and probably happy and maybe free, but I think deep down I knew that already。 I appreciated the author's emphasis on research but I do find that in nutrition books there seems to be lots of science available to support whatever point is being made (don't eat meat, eat this kind of fat, don't eat carbs, etc。)。 One thing I'd never thought about before is how it's likely the act of grinding up natural substances to There is no doubt that if I was able to stop eating sugar and flour I would be thin and probably happy and maybe free, but I think deep down I knew that already。 I appreciated the author's emphasis on research but I do find that in nutrition books there seems to be lots of science available to support whatever point is being made (don't eat meat, eat this kind of fat, don't eat carbs, etc。)。 One thing I'd never thought about before is how it's likely the act of grinding up natural substances to make flour and sugar that makes them really potent and addictive。 Also lots of helpful general life suggestions for daily gratitude, morning routines, guided meditations, etc。 。。。more

It’s not a diet, but a way of eating for food addicts。 As I fit that caragory, I will be working on this and incorporating it into my life。

This was eye-opening。 It doesn't talk about anything new, exactly, but it explains the science behind nutrition and food addiction。 For anyone who takes food bingeing to the extreme and can't understand why, this book explains it all。 This was eye-opening。 It doesn't talk about anything new, exactly, but it explains the science behind nutrition and food addiction。 For anyone who takes food bingeing to the extreme and can't understand why, this book explains it all。 。。。more

Wow, the wild variety of reviews on this book are really interesting。 I guess its a love it or hate it situation。 I got this audiobook from the library, expecting very little。 Usually non fiction on audio is not my thing。 However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the scientific information presented in the first half of the book and also deeply moved by the author’s own story of addiction, pain, and recovery。 My own sister literally killed herself with food so I relate very strongly Wow, the wild variety of reviews on this book are really interesting。 I guess its a love it or hate it situation。 I got this audiobook from the library, expecting very little。 Usually non fiction on audio is not my thing。 However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the scientific information presented in the first half of the book and also deeply moved by the author’s own story of addiction, pain, and recovery。 My own sister literally killed herself with food so I relate very strongly to the despair and pain and uncontrollable cycle of gain and loss that most food addicts go through。 The author’s story is believable and makes a compelling case for changing your approach to eating。 In a society full of fat, sick and unhappy people its hard to deny that there needs to be a revolution in what we eat。 I completed the 14 day challenge with Bright Line eating and definitely recommend it to people who feel like they need to get control of their impulses。 It was eye opening to start weighing my food and realize that I’ve been shortchanging myself for years on how much vegetables I should be eating。 I am an advocate of time restricted eating and intermittent fasting but my favorite book on the subject doesn’t have enough structure for me。 Bright Line Eating delivers that structure。 This is a good book about a plan that a person could live with long term。 。。。more

This book, with its solid philosophy based in science and experience, has absolutely shifted the course of my life。 Some may say it is extreme, but the extreme health consequences that are a result of poor diet and lack of understanding call for an extreme approach。 I am grateful for Susan Pierce Thompson, for her vision, for her vulnerability, and for the sacrifices she has made to help me be a better, more whole person。 ❤️

But I have to give her a solid 4-stars for the message alone, the science behind it, the years she's spent researching all this, and the hope it's given me。 I'm going off of sugar and flour like I said, and if it has amazing, great health benefits for me, then amen。 I'd be indebted to the author。 Nothing wrong with any of that! 。。。more

Have you ever wanted to be at your healthy weight all the time? Do you struggle to lose, or gain, weight? Do you want to feel happy, thin, and free in your life? Without the little shoulder devil making you feel guilty just for eating or telling you you’re not healthy enough to do that? After years of research and experimentation, Susan Peirce Thompson, Ph。D。, shares her extraordinary results and her own life story。 She walks you through the science of how your brain works in regards to food and Have you ever wanted to be at your healthy weight all the time? Do you struggle to lose, or gain, weight? Do you want to feel happy, thin, and free in your life? Without the little shoulder devil making you feel guilty just for eating or telling you you’re not healthy enough to do that? After years of research and experimentation, Susan Peirce Thompson, Ph。D。, shares her extraordinary results and her own life story。 She walks you through the science of how your brain works in regards to food and weight and then guides you through the process of how to reboot your brain, to retrain it to process nutrients correctly so you can live at YOUR healthy weight。I honestly had no intention of reading this book; it’s not usually my type。 But I have friends who follow the program and I wanted to learn more without running into the evangelist/sales pitch conversation that is typical with any program (you know what I’m talking about)。 I wanted to learn about it without the biased opinions starting me off。 Luckily, the library had a copy。 And I was surprised。 There’s actually some good information in here。One I thing I want to point out first off: I’ve seen many reviews where people say this program says don’t exercise。 This is absolutely not true。 Read the whole section on exercise, please。 She says if exercise is a habit for you, then by all means exercise! But if exercise is not a habit yet, focus on one thing at a time so you’re not overwhelmed; eating first, exercise second。The author has had a difficult life with all kinds of struggles and addictions。 After years of weight issues she began approaching her food from the same angle she approached her drug and alcohol issues。 So she leans heavily on the 12-step structure of those programs to guide you through getting the food in your life under control。 (In addition, her degree is in cognitive science so she’s well versed in the psychology and neuroscience of how your brain works, and shares it with you—but without using highly technical jargon。) Some of what she says is quite extreme in my opinion; however, I do completely understand why she does go that way。 I’m absolutely positive there are people who need and benefit from following every step she’s laid out in the exact order and way。On the other hand, not everyone needs a strict road map to get them through their day。 (I suppose that means I’m on the low end of the susceptibility scale?) So I suppose it’s good that she gives you the process for people who struggle every second of the day and allow you to choose how much help you need, that more is there if you want it。 That being said, there are things I’m willing to give a try and incorporate into my life。 I have many food allergies and sensitives and have struggled with weight issues my whole life, especially since a surgery I had a few years ago。 I’ve got an open mind and am willing to experiment。 Much of what she says is close to what I’m already doing, so who knows and why not? Nothing in here is going to hurt you。 。。。more

I liked all the brain science and her story, but when I got to the eating plan it’s obvious why people lose weight with it - it’s highly restrictive in calories and you have to obsessively weigh your food。 Like an example is when measuring out green beans, even if it’s 0。1 oz over you have to snap off half a bean to get the right amount。 Now, there is the type of person who, if they gave themselves permission to go over just a little bit on the amount of green beans they’re having, their brains I liked all the brain science and her story, but when I got to the eating plan it’s obvious why people lose weight with it - it’s highly restrictive in calories and you have to obsessively weigh your food。 Like an example is when measuring out green beans, even if it’s 0。1 oz over you have to snap off half a bean to get the right amount。 Now, there is the type of person who, if they gave themselves permission to go over just a little bit on the amount of green beans they’re having, their brains would say, well if we had a little extra of green beans, we can have just a little extra of this or that and before they knew it complete overeating or a full on binge would be taking place。 For them this way of eating could be extremely helpful。 For the rest of us, I don’t think this diet plan is helpful, except for the general idea of getting away from processed food and the standard American diet and instead focusing on whole foods。 The Bright Line idea might be helpful, too, if you have certain trigger foods that you always end up binging on。 。。。more

What did I learn from this book? (1) A bunch of stuff about brain connections and chemistry that I won't remember but that made sense when I read them。 (2) Reinforcement of the concept of automaticity - if you make things automatic, you don't waste energy making decisions and using up your willpower。 The example (not in the book) that I learned earlier (from Barack Obama) is to wear a uniform--that is, dress according to a formula (gray suit or blue suit) that doesn't require you to make decisio What did I learn from this book? (1) A bunch of stuff about brain connections and chemistry that I won't remember but that made sense when I read them。 (2) Reinforcement of the concept of automaticity - if you make things automatic, you don't waste energy making decisions and using up your willpower。 The example (not in the book) that I learned earlier (from Barack Obama) is to wear a uniform--that is, dress according to a formula (gray suit or blue suit) that doesn't require you to make decisions all the time about what to wear。 Same goes for eating--this program has you figure out what you're going to eat tomorrow, based on bright line rules, and then you just eat it。 You don't eat anything else, and you don't change the plan。 page 28 "Whoa, willpower is actually a thing。" Exerting self-control in one area of our lives uses up this precious, finite resource and prevents further regulation of other functions。The bright line rules are: (1) no sugar (or artificial sweeteners or dried fruit or juice or smoothies), but whole fruit is good, (2) no flour (or bread or crackers or chips or pasta or anything made out of flour), (3) always and only eat at meals at mealtimes, and (4) eat controlled quantities (actually measure)。 Okay, sounds like Duh, right? But some of us need to be reminded from time to time。 So thanks to Janne for bringing this program to my attention。One more thing - when you are offered an edible item that is not on your plan, even if other people are ingesting it without apparent harm - say, fresh-baked peanut butter cookies or cinnamon rolls - just say to yourself "Not My Food" or, after you've been saying this to yourself for a while, "NMF。" This is like what my friend Jill taught me a long time ago。 When she sees yummy-looking brownies, she says to them, "You are not my friend。"See link for resources associated with the book: http://Book。BrightLineEating。com 。。。more

I would not recommend this book to anyone looking to live a healthier lifestyle。 Her methodology for losing weight is an "All or Nothing" stance, which is not healthy。 Cut out flour completely。 Cut out sugar, x, y, z。。。it's just ludicrous。 People can learn to enjoy food in moderation, but you need to help them learn how to do that and help them work through the beliefs they have about food, the potential misinformation, and their emotional and psychological connections to food and decision-makin I would not recommend this book to anyone looking to live a healthier lifestyle。 Her methodology for losing weight is an "All or Nothing" stance, which is not healthy。 Cut out flour completely。 Cut out sugar, x, y, z。。。it's just ludicrous。 People can learn to enjoy food in moderation, but you need to help them learn how to do that and help them work through the beliefs they have about food, the potential misinformation, and their emotional and psychological connections to food and decision-making。 This is not the answer, unless you're an "All or Nothing" / rigid kind of person。 If you want help losing weight and keeping it off, try Noom。 Yes, it costs money, but so does this program after you've read her book and joined her groups。 Noom actually addresses a lot of things and includes science, psychology, and good information。 。。。more

The bits about the brain chemistry and biology of addiction and also habit building was interesting but a lot of the rest of this book is just off the chain。 It starts with Thompson’s life story that just kind of stretches at the end of your beliefs and then is filled with “testimonials”’of devote followers。 Those where a huge mistake。 They are absolutely tone deaf and weird and makes the end of each chapter seem like it’s a promo for a loud crowd-rousing exposition of some kind of religion。 I s The bits about the brain chemistry and biology of addiction and also habit building was interesting but a lot of the rest of this book is just off the chain。 It starts with Thompson’s life story that just kind of stretches at the end of your beliefs and then is filled with “testimonials”’of devote followers。 Those where a huge mistake。 They are absolutely tone deaf and weird and makes the end of each chapter seem like it’s a promo for a loud crowd-rousing exposition of some kind of religion。 I stopped reading them。 Even the comparison of photos of sugar, flour and cocaine suggesting that because they all look similar they work the same way in your body regarding addiction was just laughable。The whole diet aspect of this just feels。。。。 “live happy and free” by carrying around scales and obsessively weighing everything including yourself? I get that free thing is that you are removing mental load from yourself but I don’t really see how forcing yourself to stick to a decision you made last night any different than just forcing yourself to stick to a promise of not eating unhealthy foods。 And whilst it tells you exactly what to it, if lumps it into categories and doesn’t actually provide with meal plans or anything so you’re essentially expected to go out and buy Thompson’s cookbook。Also the whole 。。。。 “bright lines” aspect was kind of a let down? Like I don’t know what I expected it to be but it was kind of like “yeah here’s your rules follow them” when Thompson has acted like they were scared and meaningful。 It just devolves into the opinions of someone obsessed who’s going on about their PhD like that makes all of their thoughts backed up by science。 。。。more
