Summary

This was supposed to be her happily ever after。。。

It’s a familiar tale: A kind and beautiful young girl, reeling from loss。 A doting father, frantic to bring a mother’s love back into his daughter’s life。 And the selfish, cruel woman who insinuates herself into that family―a woman so unfeeling, so cold hearted, that when her new husband dies, she makes the girl a servant in her own home。

But who is that evil stepmother, that icy lady of the house? How did she become so closed off that, in the face of a child’s grief, she thought only to seek wealth and power for herself and her abhorrent daughters? Before that fateful ball, before the glass slipper and the prince, there was another story―a story of love and grief, of hope and of dreams dashed。 It is the story of Lady Tremaine。

Even the coldest of villains are sometimes wives and mothers, women who loved and lost and hoped for something grander for their lives 。 。 。 once upon a dream。

The latest novel in Serena Valentino’s deliciously devious Villains series introduces the most famed and hated wicked stepmother of them all―but turns everything you know about her on its head。

An amazing look at Lady Tremane and her life and what led her to be the villain we all are familiar with。 Heartbreaking story and background given to this character, made even worse by people who wanted to be the only ones to help, but did nothing。 Loved this book so much!

This was a pretty good addition to the Disney villain series。 I loved lady Tremaine’s backstory and I love the twist of who is the actual villain。 I wish we would’ve seen more of a lady Tremaine’s downfall。 I feel like most of the book was her backstory and what happened to her but it doesn’t really show the moment that she switched and turned into the villain。 I was just expecting her to be the worst villain of all the way that they had talked in the previous books and I feel like hers was one This was a pretty good addition to the Disney villain series。 I loved lady Tremaine’s backstory and I love the twist of who is the actual villain。 I wish we would’ve seen more of a lady Tremaine’s downfall。 I feel like most of the book was her backstory and what happened to her but it doesn’t really show the moment that she switched and turned into the villain。 I was just expecting her to be the worst villain of all the way that they had talked in the previous books and I feel like hers was one of the ones that was the biggest injustice done to her。 I did however love the redemption for the stepsisters and I really love the change of heart from the fairy godmother because she was really bothering me in all the previous books。 I am super super super excited for the next book though and super hopeful because Captain Hook is my favorite villain and I cannot wait to see what plays and his story and how all these jade pieces of jewelry intertwine。 。。。more

The reader gets a look into Lady Tremaines origin story and what caused her to turn evil。 As Nanny and Fairy Godmother decide whether they should help Anastasia and Drizella at the request of Cinderella they go back and read their story。 Lady Tremaine is an interesting villain as the author paints her in a light that has the reader sympathetic and for brief moments hoping for a happy ending for her。 It's a good story。 The reader gets a look into Lady Tremaines origin story and what caused her to turn evil。 As Nanny and Fairy Godmother decide whether they should help Anastasia and Drizella at the request of Cinderella they go back and read their story。 Lady Tremaine is an interesting villain as the author paints her in a light that has the reader sympathetic and for brief moments hoping for a happy ending for her。 It's a good story。 。。。more

Cold Hearted made me feel sympathetic towards Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, and Drizella。Ms。 Valentino delves into the backstory of these three and shows just why things turned out the way they did。 After seeing how they were treated by Cinderella’s father after Lady Tremaine married him I’m not surprised。 While Cinderella isn’t totally innocent either, she was only listening to her father。 The author included what I believe was a hint at who her next book is about。 I’m curious as to how many more b Cold Hearted made me feel sympathetic towards Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, and Drizella。Ms。 Valentino delves into the backstory of these three and shows just why things turned out the way they did。 After seeing how they were treated by Cinderella’s father after Lady Tremaine married him I’m not surprised。 While Cinderella isn’t totally innocent either, she was only listening to her father。 The author included what I believe was a hint at who her next book is about。 I’m curious as to how many more books she has planned for this series。Now is a perfect time to start the Villains series。 With the next book being released next summer I believe, that give you plenty of time to read and enjoy the first eight books。 。。。more

It shows how different sides portray a different story within the same tale! How being treated like sir Richard treated the stepmother can lead them to treating others the same! Although I don’t find this an excuse! The story was there but I don’t feel the magic was!

Cold Hearted was absolutely riveting。 I liked how Vakentino wrote your typical Cinderella story from Lady Tremaine's point of view because it gave me a better understanding of how and why Lady Tramaine became the way that she is, cold hearted。 Cold Hearted was absolutely riveting。 I liked how Vakentino wrote your typical Cinderella story from Lady Tremaine's point of view because it gave me a better understanding of how and why Lady Tramaine became the way that she is, cold hearted。 。。。more

Disney fans would love these books without a doubt! I have read all of them but Sleeping Beauty’s book and this is one of my favorite ones of them all! Cold Hearted & The Beast Within are the best out of the series! Valentino does a marvelous job giving the villain a story!! Must read!!! If you didn’t watch the movies that these are based off of you probably won’t be as into it but I think it would still be a good book!

My Favorite Out of the Series!I absolutely loved this one! This is my most favorite out of the rest of the books。 It was realistic and psychologically well written。 It made complete sense on how Lady Tremaine became so cold。 She took her pain to a dark place。 However, I really felt she could’ve been saved。 Nanny hoped to save Maleficent but she went along with taking down Lady Tremaine instead of seeing the possibility of redemption。 I felt that choice was out of character based on her judgement My Favorite Out of the Series!I absolutely loved this one!

Another awesome story。 Lady Tremaine still grieving over her first husband and raising her daughters soon meets Sir Richard and her life is literally turned upside down。 Knowing that she wasn't always cold hearted and hearing her story actually made me feel a little bad for her。 Another awesome story。 Lady Tremaine still grieving over her first husband and raising her daughters soon meets Sir Richard and her life is literally turned upside down。 Knowing that she wasn't always cold hearted and hearing her story actually made me feel a little bad for her。 。。。more

Cold Hearted: A Tale of the Wicked Stepmother is the eighth entry in Serena Valentino's popular Disney Villains series of novels, preceded by (in reverse chronological order) Evil Thing, The Odd Sisters, Mother Knows Best, Mistress of All Evil, Poor Unfortunate Soul, The Beast Within, and Fairest of All。 This one, of course, gives us the backstory of Lady Tremaine, the cruel stepmother from the 1950 Disney animated movie Cinderella。 I love the Disney villains and especially love learning what ma Cold Hearted: A Tale of the Wicked Stepmother is the eighth entry in Serena Valentino's popular Disney Villains series of novels, preceded by (in reverse chronological order) Evil Thing, The Odd Sisters, Mother Knows Best, Mistress of All Evil, Poor Unfortunate Soul, The Beast Within, and Fairest of All。 This one, of course, gives us the backstory of Lady Tremaine, the cruel stepmother from the 1950 Disney animated movie Cinderella。 I love the Disney villains and especially love learning what makes them tick and/or what made them what they are, and I love when these stories are told from the villains' perspectives because we often come to better understand their actions and maybe even sympathize/empathize with them, as I definitely did reading Cold Hearted as I found myself feeling so terribly awful for Lady Tremaine。 I was, in fact, pleasantly surprised by Cold Hearted because I admittedly hadn't been all that excited about the announcement that she would be the focus of the eighth novel because I had never really felt all that drawn to Lady Tremaine。 Cold Hearted, however, ended up being one of my favorite books of the series, and I absolutely love it。 Before I really talk about what I love about the novel, however, I do want to present some random questions and observations:1。 I wish that Lady Tremaine's first name were revealed。 All most anyone ever calls her is Lady Tremaine which is strange。 I get that it's probably because Disney has never officially given her a first name and Serena is required to honor that, but I am still kind of bothered by it all the same。2。 Along that same line of thought, I think that I had always assumed that Cinderella's father was Lord Tremaine, that that was his surname that Lady Tremaine took after marrying him, but no, in this novel, we learn that Lord Tremaine was Lady Tremaine's first husband, as in Anastasia's and Drizella's father, but I find that odd because, again, everyone calls her Lady Tremaine even after she is remarried。 It seems especially unlikely that Sir Richard (Cinderella's father) would want her to continue going by that。3。 There is a little bit of LGBTQ+ representation on page 91 of this edition of the novel which made me really happy to see。What I especially love about Cold Hearted is that it really gives us a deep dive into Lady Tremaine's psyche, much like Fairest of All does in regards to the Evil Queen (also known as Grimhilde), something that I felt Poor Unfortunate Soul was really lacking。 Fairest of All, Evil Thing, and now Cold Hearted are undoubtedly my top three favorite books of the series so far because of how well they represent issues like grief and emotional anguish, and, like I said, this book really made me feel awful for Lady Tremaine。 I, in fact, have mixed feelings about the ending; I find it bittersweet because there are definitely some really happy aspects to it, but it's also really sad and tragic and very dark。 I won't say any more than that about the ending, however, because I don't want to spoil it。 (To those thinking, Well, come on, who hasn't seen Cinderella? Everyone knows how that ends, yes, but Cold Hearted extends beyond that ending。) I also love that there seems to be a direct connection to Cruella's novel Evil Thing and, like Evil Thing, also a hint at who the featured villain of the ninth novel will be, which Serena Valentino has recently confirmed as Captain Hook of Peter Pan。 (I care even less about Hook than I did Lady Tremaine prior to reading this novel, so I can't say that I am terribly excited, but I have a feeling that I am once again going to be pleasantly surprised。)I have to say, however, that I am really hoping that Serena writes and publishes some kind of companion book to this series because I am really starting to get confused by the timeline and when things take place。 For example, it seems like Lady Tremaine's story takes place long before Maleficent destroys the Fairylands in Mistress of All Evil, but I had thought that that had happened eons ago, yet not only is Lady Tremaine still alive by the time the story brings us back to present day, Anastasia and Drizella are still just young women。 This implies that only a few years pass between Lady Tremaine arriving in the Many Kingdoms and present day even though we had previously been led to believe that it had been at least sixteen years given the fact that Maleficent destroys the Fairylands prior to the events of Sleeping Beauty。 I could very well, however, be thinking of it the wrong way which is why I would love a companion piece that provides things like a timeline of all of the major events thus far, character profiles, and so forth。 The bottom line, however, is that I very much enjoyed reading Cold Hearted and will enjoy reading the graphic novel version of Evil Thing ahead of Never, Never (Hook's story) coming out next summer 2022! 。。。more

Overall I liked this book。 I really liked Lady Tremaine's back story。 I was not expecting her story to be like that。 I will say that I wasn't the biggest fan of the ending。 Super cheesy in my opinion and I could think of at least 3 better ways it could of ended。 Wonder who is next in the series。 Overall I liked this book。 I really liked Lady Tremaine's back story。 I was not expecting her story to be like that。 I will say that I wasn't the biggest fan of the ending。 Super cheesy in my opinion and I could think of at least 3 better ways it could of ended。 Wonder who is next in the series。 。。。more

First, thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc。 Cold Hearted is the story of Cinderella's stepmother, Lady Tremaine and her two daughter, Anastasia and Drizella。 Not long after she lost her husband, she's left to raise them alone。 This is her story of before she met Cinderella father's。 And also this one role in the villain we will all know later。 First, thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc。 Cold Hearted is the story of Cinderella's stepmother, Lady Tremaine and her two daughter, Anastasia and Drizella。 Not long after she lost her husband, she's left to raise them alone。 This is her story of before she met Cinderella father's。 And also this one role in the villain we will all know later。 。。。more

✨ Re-telling of Cinderella ✨Well this one is so twisted it。Who would have thought that the stepmother and stepsisters are not really bad, that it was because of Cinderella's father that they became so cruel。Also, the fairy godmother is a btch even before in Maleficent's story。 Hmm, I'm just impressed that she found her way to listen to Nanny。 ✨ Re-telling of Cinderella ✨Well this one is so twisted it。Who would have thought that the stepmother and stepsisters are not really bad, that it was because of Cinderella's father that they became so cruel。Also, the fairy godmother is a btch even before in Maleficent's story。 Hmm, I'm just impressed that she found her way to listen to Nanny。 。。。more
