Obviously a modern classic。 Although this is a children's book series, I only started reading them when I was about 16。 Needless to say, I loved them nontheless。 Obviously a modern classic。 Although this is a children's book series, I only started reading them when I was about 16。 Needless to say, I loved them nontheless。 。。。more

Rating series as a whole after doing a binge re-read a few weeks back。 They honestly never stuck to me as a young lad, but wanted to give it a refresher now that I’ve more than doubled my years of experience。 Positives: some good character development, the setting is developed in an excellent manner, and it’s definitely a good introduction for younger readers。 Negatives: many of the adult characters felt obnoxiously immature (obviously a series for children), never once felt the villains had a s Rating series as a whole after doing a binge re-read a few weeks back。 They honestly never stuck to me as a young lad, but wanted to give it a refresher now that I’ve more than doubled my years of experience。 Positives: some good character development, the setting is developed in an excellent manner, and it’s definitely a good introduction for younger readers。 Negatives: many of the adult characters felt obnoxiously immature (obviously a series for children), never once felt the villains had a snowballs chance to “win”, and there was next to no foreshadowing from book to book。 Not to mention they all follow nearly the same structure, making things very predictable after the first few。 Would rate 2 stars, but adding a bonus star for the nostalgia factor, having a good number of interesting characters, and the fact that it introduced so many people I know to fantasy。 。。。more

Harry Potter Books 1-7These books are great, and so much better than the movie versions。 A lot of things happened that were not shown in the movies。 Well, of course movies are of limited durations, so a lot of details were skipped。 Highly recommended。

PotterWhat can be said about a book you already know so much about? The first three are the traditional school adventure book。 After that, the books explode in length and content, never quite elevating themselves above juvenile fiction, but definitely becoming more mature, as Harry does。 No sex, but there is snogging and violence and hate and love。

My daughter went through a Harry Potter phase but lost interest at about book two。 I, however, got hooked and read them all。 Loved all of them。

Re-read these books - this time it was the audio version, read by Steven Fry。 I will highly recommand those! And I will listen to them again another time。 He is amazing! Just had to pick the books to match them into my reading goal of the year 😅

Have read all the Harry Potter books, and got hooked on the whole Harry Potter universe。 I only took one star of because in the order of the Phoenix was difficult for me to get through due to its lack of action during the lead up until some of the last chapters。 Overall, they were what sparked my interest in reading as a child and are still great books to read as a young adult today。 My favourite being the chamber of secrets!

Why is Harry Potter such a strong contender for one of the greatest series of all time? Is it the pity and compassion we feel for this poor, undernourished orphan living under the stairs? Do we admire his courage and bravery in conquering his darkest enemy? Or are we jealous of the magical world he lives in?Personally, I love Harry Potter。 He is my friend。 We grew up together, feared and fought the Dark Lord together and have entered adulthood together。I received the first four Harry Potter book Why is Harry Potter such a strong contender for one of the greatest series of all time? Is it the pity and compassion we feel for this poor, undernourished orphan living under the stairs? Do we admire his courage and bravery in conquering his darkest enemy? Or are we jealous of the magical world he lives in?Personally, I love Harry Potter。 He is my friend。 We grew up together, feared and fought the Dark Lord together and have entered adulthood together。I received the first four Harry Potter books (the only one’s published at the time!) for my tenth birthday。 As the next books were published, I stayed of an age with Harry and his friends and enjoyed picking my NEWT subjects and taking Apparition classes alongside my magical friends。 I may have been graduating from VCE, starting University and starting my first serious relationship, but Harry was doing the same thing in his world。 I understood his fears and his challenges as I encountered them in reality。 I appreciated his empathy。This series is magical, not because of the subject matter, but because it has enchanted a whole new generation of readers; individuals of all ages who have been inspired by their experiences reading Harry Potter, and are branching out and trying to find more adventures in literature。What I Liked: I enjoy my adventures with Harry, Ron and Hermione。 I like watching their personalities grow, and sharing in the teenage angst we all experience。 When they fight with their friends, find love or face their fears, I empathise and can live through the characters Rowling has created。These books mature with Harry。 He transforms from a gawky boy in a magic-less, mundane world of muggles, to a wizard confident in conquering the dangers facing his new home and friends。My favourite instalment: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban。I’m definitely not alone in preferring HP3 to the rest of the series。 This book is so popular it is set as a school book。 I got the opportunity to study it in one of my Children’s Literature classes in the third year of my Bachelor of Arts。In HP3, Harry begins his emotional growth, entering adolescents and learning to deal with the anger and fear caused by the onset of crazy magical hormones。 As Harry learns more about his parents identities, their friends and their ultimate betrayal, he must learn to recognise loyalty and truth in his own relationships。 When Harry finally confronts his Godfather, he must channel the morals and compassion of his parents, in order to see justice for their deaths。What I Didn’t Like: I don’t really have any of the classic issues with Harry Potter。 I don’t have a problem with J。K Rowlings style or story telling, and I find her characters as realistic as they can be when living in a fictional magical world。 I occasionally find Harry a bit too temperamental in books 4-7, but I know enough teenage boys to know they are angry, gruff and uncooperative。2021 update: In recent years, I've come to better understand how the use of stereotypes and the lack of diversity in the Harry Potter series is harmful。 I still cherish the books, but when I read them now, I try to do so with an awareness of the racism that imbues the books - particularly in regards to the representation of many magical creatures。 Goblins in literature been recognised as examples of anti-Semitic stereotypes and caricatures of Jewish people; while this may not have been intentional, Harry Potter has so much influence that it continues to perpetuate a harmful mythology。For an insightful look into some of the problems with the Harry Potter universe, have a look at these articles that express it more clearly than I can:JK Rowling has always been tone-deaf。 Just look at the Harry Potter Universe written by Shubhangi MisraCharacters Are Not A Coloring Book Or, Why the Black Hermione is a Poor Apology for the Ingrained Racism of Harry Potter is an essay by Mimi MondalConclusion: Harry Potter will forever be one of my go-to stories when I’m sick or lonely。 It makes me feel better, and reminds me that magic exists everywhere。 I can acknowledge that there are significant problems and Rowling has become problematic - I know I will no longer support her as an author by purchasing merchandise and if my books ever need to be replaced, it will be second hand - but I am also grateful that these books inspired generations of children to read。 。。。more

These books helped my young heart fall in love with reading。

Marvellous!Having read the series as they were released back in the day, this is the first time I’ve read the books back to back。 This is highly recommended as all the connections are made and the story of Harry’s destiny unravels until the ultimate climax in the last book。 Truly marvellous!

Love these booksI've read the whole series many times and I prefer them to the movies。 I just wish there had been a follow-up story that told us if they went back to school; what kinds of jobs they got: where they ended up living。 That would have been good。 Love these booksI've read the whole series many times and I prefer them to the movies。 I just wish there had been a follow-up story that told us if they went back to school; what kinds of jobs they got: where they ended up living。 That would have been good。 。。。more

Would have been better if I had started it in elementary/middle school。 Read it in high school。

Not all books equally good in pace, those which seemed draggy are good built up for the latter in the story。 Great read。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Woh this is gonna be long。Been waiting to read the series since forever and when i finally got my hands on them, i finished the entire 7 books in the span of only a month。 My friends told me its not healthy but what can i say, i couldnt really stop then。 Maybe take a few breather after a shocking scene or finished a book but the next day i would just dive in to the next one。Okay so i know how some would say that the Harry Potter series is a beautiful story or an interesting fantasy, or a dark st Woh this is gonna be long。Been waiting to read the series since forever and when i finally got my hands on them, i finished the entire 7 books in the span of only a month。 My friends told me its not healthy but what can i say, i couldnt really stop then。 Maybe take a few breather after a shocking scene or finished a book but the next day i would just dive in to the next one。Okay so i know how some would say that the Harry Potter series is a beautiful story or an interesting fantasy, or a dark story, but here's my take: its a SAD SAD STORY。 Okay maybe we were off to a (kindof) good start in book 1 and 2 when it still seems all rainbows and sunshine at hogwarts!! Wow!! Magic!! But even then its already a given that Harry was an ORPHAN living in a TOXIC AND ABUSIVE household。 And then we got to the third book and i think that thats when everything is just kind of going downhill。 I think i cried for the second half of the book ngl。 I basically went like:Yay! he met sirius! They gon live together! No! Pettigrew escaped, now harry cant move in with sirius >:(Wow! magic schools other than hogwarts? Also how cute harry had his lil crush on chang :(No! Why would he got into the game without applying? And nothing can cancel whats been put in the goblet of fire? BS?! HE WAS A CHILD?!?Yay! Ok he or cedric might winNO! CEDRIC DIED?!?! (this brOKE ME esp when his father saw his body and start mourning then and there, i cried for so long i had to take a break from reading)Everything after was just like a series of unfortunate events: umbridge was a meNACE, Sirius' death?!?!?, (i wasnt really into the sixth book tbh so lets just skip to) dobby's death?! Draco was a good boy he just need proper guidance plz :( Also: THE BATTLE OF HOGWARTS? i legit had to close the book for a few days before entering the chapter。 It was SO SO SAD?? Freds death?LUPINS DEATH? Sure another parental figure from harry got taken away just like that? What do we expectTONKS?? They were 😭 expecting 😭 a 😭😭 baby 😭 and about to become a family😭Anyways after that the epilogue was meh but ok。 What makes me even sadder (and that is completely my fault) was that throughout the story i would always think about the what-ifs。 What if harry still had his parents? What if he had been adopted by either lupin or sirius or mcgonagall?? What if sirius didnt die? What if pettigrew didnt betray them? What if,,,,,,,, i stop thinking and stop mourning over the loss of a fictional character?!?! Anyways i could probably write a longer essay for the series but this sums it up。 。。。more

Was a huge part of my childhood, but going back there are a lot of plot holes and questionable character choices。

What an epic reading journey did i experienced。 I spended my summer of 2021 reading the whole Harry Potter series。 It felt like if I was on vacation in the magical Hogwarts castle and just returned in the real world with an massive jet lag。 I absolutely loved the entire series。 Harry potter played a huge role in my childhood。 It made me realise how fast the time goes without us noticing it。The storyline is amazing ,but all the small details that the entire series contain amazed me even more。*An What an epic reading journey did i experienced。 I spended my summer of 2021 reading the whole Harry Potter series。 It felt like if I was on vacation in the magical Hogwarts castle and just returned in the real world with an massive jet lag。 I absolutely loved the entire series。 Harry potter played a huge role in my childhood。 It made me realise how fast the time goes without us noticing it。The storyline is amazing ,but all the small details that the entire series contain amazed me even more。*An vanishing cabinet*How Ron’s pet rat Scabbers turned out to be Peter Pettigrew。*How Professor Trelawney correctly predicts that Dumbledore will be the first person to die。*The sad background of Neville added a lot of details。 He is a bit of the anti-hero, but really brave when it comes to protecting his friends。"It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends"*Screaming mandrake plants (loved them so much), that I ended up with a replica in my home…*The cute and ''fluffy'' dangerous creatures from Hagrid。 They added a lot of humoristic elements that made me laugh。 *The important rol of Mrs。 Figg。I think that J。K Rowling put everything so well together。 She sparked a huge imagination in her readers their minds。All characters in the series played their own unique role。 The evilness of professor Umbridge。 The humour from the Weasley twins。 Rita Skeeter the gossip loving journalist。But my favourite characters where:The moody Kreacher who made me laugh all the time。‘’Harry Potter, the boy who stopped the Dark Lord。 Friend of Mudbloods and blood-traitors alike。 If my poor mistress only knew。。。’’And Harry his loyal friend Dobby。 His attempts often caused more harm than he intended but that charmed him very well。‘’You shall not harm Harry Potter’’And Snape in my point of view one of the most important characters in the entire series。 His character turned out to be really surprising in the end。 I think that the Harry potter series are very suitable for young and old and i would highly recommend them。 。。。more
