WHAT a delight! ‘Besties’ brings me back to my tween days, and all the sleepovers and shenanigans my best friend and I would get into (although, we were not nearly as stylish as Beth and Chanda)。 A heartwarming story about friendship and what happens when friends don’t quite see eye to eye。 You’ll want to root for our dear Besties while they learn a lesson or two about growing up, being responsible, and doing the right thing。 Absolutely charming with its eye-catching illustrations, humorous dial WHAT a delight! ‘Besties’ brings me back to my tween days, and all the sleepovers and shenanigans my best friend and I would get into (although, we were not nearly as stylish as Beth and Chanda)。 A heartwarming story about friendship and what happens when friends don’t quite see eye to eye。 You’ll want to root for our dear Besties while they learn a lesson or two about growing up, being responsible, and doing the right thing。 Absolutely charming with its eye-catching illustrations, humorous dialogue, and even a FASHION MONTAGE。 Can’t wait to see what’s next for Beth and Chanda! 。。。more

This story focuses on Beth and Chanda, who we’ve met in previous books by Kayla Miller。 And let me tell you, reading it while house- and dog-sitting for a cool, newly retired woman with many fragile souvenirs of her travels displayed around her house was a TRIP。 Especially as, yes, I’d taken photographs of some of those beautiful objects, though I have so far restrained from putting them on Instagram。This story brushes so many important topics! Beth’s family is struggling financially, and Beth wants to earn enough money to treat her hard-working mother to a spa day。 Chanda feels overshadowed by her elder sister, away at college, but frequently in her parents’ conversations。 Chanda wants to help Beth earn the money and to prove to her parents that she is responsible enough to adopt a pet (view spoiler)[—an older cat who has spent months in the shelter。With the help of Beth’s older sister, the two land a job as dog- and house-sitters。 They are blown away by their luck and enjoy the time that they spend in the house。 They post photos of themselves in the house on social media, and in an attempt to be admitted into the cool clique, Chanda lies about their relation to Ms。 Langford。 Chanda convinces Beth to invite a classmate to the house。While they are visiting, a lamp accidentally breaks。 Unable to fix it, Beth and Chanda look to replace it, but the replacement is more than $200。The two begin another business to try to earn the money for the replacement lamp, hoping to avoid trouble with Ms。 Langford and not wholly ruin Chanda’s chances to be seen as responsible at last。 The two begin to fight over responsibility and asking for and accepting help。 Beth won’t let her sister sacrifice to help them fix their mistakes。 She calls Chanda selfish。 Hurt, Chanda lashes out。The girls struggle with their individual goals, with those goals conflicting with each other’s。 Ultimately, their friendship survives the strains, they choose honesty, and they help each other toward their goals, because besties do work it out。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Fantastic! I loved Kayla Miller’s other work on Click, Camp, etc and was excited about this one。 Beth and Chanda learn so many important life lessons—honesty, hard work, and more。 I love that they aren’t your typical main characters either。 I can’t wait to read more!

I love the Click stories, so I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about a story set in the Click world, but not about the main character。 I should not have worried。 This is a great story on its own。 And both Olive, who has been the main character in the Click books, makes an appearance as does Nat (Natasha) who is just as annoying as she was in Clash, the fourth book in the series。。Beth and Chanda want to earn money so that Beth can give her mom a really good gift for her birthday, a day at the I love the Click stories, so I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about a story set in the Click world, but not about the main character。 I should not have worried。 This is a great story on its own。 And both Olive, who has been the main character in the Click books, makes an appearance as does Nat (Natasha) who is just as annoying as she was in Clash, the fourth book in the series。。Beth and Chanda want to earn money so that Beth can give her mom a really good gift for her birthday, a day at the spa。 They start off with a lemonade stand, which doesn't go well。 And then they land a job house sitting, which I have to admit, I did at their age, as well, and it does pay well, and takes a lot of responsibility, too。It is that responsibility that drives this story, that, and wanting to be popular, which is both a side note, and a heavy note, on part of the story。 I was worried that things were going to turn out worse than they did, and I hesitated finishing the story, but then, things showed just how mature the girls really turned out to be, and I was very pleased with how the authors worked things out。。You don't have to have read any of the Click books to read this one, though they are fun books to read anyway。 And this appears to be the first in many more stories of Beth and Chanda。Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review。 。。。more

E ARC provided by Edelweiss PlusBeth and Chanda want to earn some money-- Beth wants to treat her mother to something nice for her birthday, and Chanda really wants a cat。 When their lemonade stand doesn't earn very much, they are looking for other employment opportunities。 Beth's sister isn't able to watch a neighbor's house because she is too busy with sports and school work, so suggests the two younger girls。 Ms。 Langford agrees to hire the two two walk her dog, water her plants, and generall E ARC provided by Edelweiss PlusBeth and Chanda want to earn some money-- Beth wants to treat her mother to something nice for her birthday, and Chanda really wants a cat。 When their lemonade stand doesn't earn very much, they are looking for other employment opportunities。 Beth's sister isn't able to watch a neighbor's house because she is too busy with sports and school work, so suggests the two younger girls。 Ms。 Langford agrees to hire the two two walk her dog, water her plants, and generally make sure that everything is fine when she is away。 Beth and Chanda make themselves a little TOO much at home, and try on their employer's vintage clothing and post pictures of themselves posing in the house on social media。 This gets them a lot of "likes" from school mates, who are curious as to where they are posing。 The girls brag a little too much about the house, and soon their classmates want to see it。 Thinking that just one girl is coming, the two plan a tea party, but when several show up, things go badly wrong and a lamp is broken。 The girls want to replace it, but it's a $200 lamp! They have to take other jobs in order to earn the money, and come up a little short on shipping and on rectifying a tiny bit of a mistake。 The two have a falling out over several small issues and approach Ms。 Langford's return while in a bit of a tiff。 Will they be able to make things right with their employer, repair their friendship, and be able to fulfill the dreams for which they hoped to m ake money? Strengths: Books about tweens who have jobs and responsibilities are always interesting, and the idea of housesitting is an intriguing one。 Hanging out with a cute dog is a bonus。 Both Beth and Chanda's families are very supportive, and I love the pictures of the families hanging around at the dinner table。 It's also good that the girls are trying to earn their own money and not rely on parental handouts。 Beth's sister is very helpful and understanding, adn Chanda's feelings of competition with her older sister are realistic。 The pictures are brightly colored and appealing。 Weaknesses: While the girls know it is bad to break the lamp, and do try to make things right, they don't seem to be all that concerned about trying on the clothes or posting pictures of Ms。 Langford's house, and they don't seem to have consequences for their actions, aside from the money, which they manage to earn back。 What I really think: I will probably purchase, because Miller's Click series is very popular, but personally, I did not care for this one at all, because of how the two treated Ms。 Langford's house! If I hired tweens to walk Pongo, and they tried on my vintage wardrobe and broke a lamp, I would not be nearly as understanding as Ms。 Langford! My students will not feel the same way, because they are not old people who are too attached to their possessions。 。。。more
