Another brilliant instalment from Joy Ellis with her Nikki Galena, this one was a little different as they chase down a killer who lives in a fantasy world of woodland spirits but Nikki and her team have their hands tied by the secret service who will not let them release any information about their presumed suspect。 As always the story flowed really well and I love the dynamics between Nikki and her team。 As always I look forward to the next instalment。

I was never really sure who to trust and, in all honesty, can say now that I suspected someone who turned out to be completely innocent! Joy Ellis can always be relied upon to provide a thorough workout for the little grey matter and this one had me hooked all the way through! There is such a lot going on and never a dull moment。 A gripping read, skilfully crafted as always and definitely a great addition to the series。 Highly recommend, and well worth all five stars。My thanks to the publisher for my copy of this novel; this is – as always – my honest, original and unbiased review。 。。。more

Although book 13 in the series, it can be read as a standalone, as there is not as much reference to Nikki's family as has been in previous ones。 This story also takes on a different angle dealing with a killer with a disorder who loves nature but is also prepared to kill for it too。 The team's hands are also tied as the killer had a (in) famous father which the security services are trying to keep a lid on。 I enjoyed all the information on the faeries ( I did live on the Isle of Man for 10 year Although book 13 in the series, it can be read as a standalone, as there is not as much reference to Nikki's family as has been in previous ones。 This story also takes on a different angle dealing with a killer with a disorder who loves nature but is also prepared to kill for it too。 The team's hands are also tied as the killer had a (in) famous father which the security services are trying to keep a lid on。 I enjoyed all the information on the faeries ( I did live on the Isle of Man for 10 years!) along with the mythology。 So even although we know who the murderer is, there are still plenty of other things to figure out through the story。Thanks to Joffe Books for the ARC to review 。。。more

This is book 13 in the DI Nikki Galena series of books but reads well as a stand-alone。 Well written and although the killer is revealed early on in the story, unlike most crime novels, it’s full of suspense; the story revolving around the search to find him and to understand why he does what he does。 Briefly, when a charred body is found in the grounds of a country house Galena and her team are given the case。 The hunt is on to find a man, Luke, the youngest son of the Hopwood-Byrd family, who This is book 13 in the DI Nikki Galena series of books but reads well as a stand-alone。 Well written and although the killer is revealed early on in the story, unlike most crime novels, it’s full of suspense; the story revolving around the search to find him and to understand why he does what he does。 Briefly, when a charred body is found in the grounds of a country house Galena and her team are given the case。 The hunt is on to find a man, Luke, the youngest son of the Hopwood-Byrd family, who left home at the age of 13 and who hadn’t been seen by his family since。 A rather dysfunctional family with a father who was involved in psychic research, believing that he had supernatural powers。 He favoured his younger son who also exhibited strange abilities。 However, when Nikki’s efforts to investigate the family, seemingly assisted by Harry Hopwood-Byrd, the elder son, are thwarted by the secret service, it’s clear that there is more going on than murder。 A story full of secrets and lies, twists and turns, love and hate。 Although I’m with Nikki when it comes to physic abilities so I found some of the content a bit far fetched and airy fairy; no pun intended。 That said, most of the book was fast paced with great characterisations。 Despite a little softening of her character as her relationship with Joseph develops Nikki remain a great strong woman。 Luke was scary in the extreme; although you wonder if it’s a case of nature or nurture。 Overall a good, exciting read and 4。5⭐️。 。。。more

Intriguing and gripping! As usual, Joy Ellis manages to come up with another extremely interesting and intriguing plot。 This one is a brilliant story in which we learn about the US experiment with “remote viewing” – something that was never revealed at the time was happening but has recently come to light and which I find extremely fascinating。The Hopwood-Byrd family are certainly a conundrum, and Nikki Galena and her team are thrown right into a very high-level investigation to catch the younges Intriguing and gripping! As usual, Joy Ellis manages to come up with another extremely interesting and intriguing plot。 This one is a brilliant story in which we learn about the US experiment with “remote viewing” – something that was never revealed at the time was happening but has recently come to light and which I find extremely fascinating。The Hopwood-Byrd family are certainly a conundrum, and Nikki Galena and her team are thrown right into a very high-level investigation to catch the youngest son who has started to randomly kill people。 Unfortunately, their hands are tied by the secret services who are anxious not to have the identity of the killer released to the public and prevent them from looking into the father’s past experiments and work。 The killer, Lucas, is a strange character with very odd fantasies which were developed in his youth, along with his older brother Harry, who has asked for help in finding his brother。 However, things are not as they seem and the complex story that evolves means that the reader really must concentrate hard。 The plot moves on quite fast with more information emerging and the urgent need to find both Lucas and Harry becomes intense。 The eventual outcome is a huge twist in the story and surprises everyone, including the reader。 Once more we are treated to a brilliant tale by this extremely clever author, leaving us with a finale to the book which makes us want more in this series as they certainly never disappoint。 Thank you so much to Joffe Books for sending me a copy of this to read and review, I really enjoyed it。 。。。more

As the book continues it shows how far governments will go to cover things up, but Nikki and her team keep persevering until the climax at the end。 I was a little surprised that Nikki didn’t consult her mum and Wendy as to the nature of the investigation as they’ve always helped out before。 I would like this book to get the recognition it deserves, and Joy gets an award for it。 I just hope she keeps on with the characters, and I’m sorry I’ve finished it。 Good authors always make sure they leave you wanting more。 My thanks to Joy and Joffe publishers for the ARC。 。。。more

Was the burned man one of the people who trashed the rare tree at the arboretum? The boys’ father was involved in a secretive experimental program in the US that has to do with his apparent high-level psychic abilities。 A thorn in Nikki’s side arrives in the form of an agent who is more concerned with keeping the father’s involvement in the program a secret than any police investigation。 The writing and plotting of this book is excellent as is usual with Ms。 Ellis’ novels。 The transitions are smoother。 I like Nikki and Joseph。 Their relationship is wonderful。 They work well together and compliment one another。 The team gets along well and Nikki treats them all equally and notices their particular talents。 Joy Ellis’ books are a treat to read。 I will continue to read them for a long time to come。 I want to thank NetGalley and Joffe Books for forwarding to me a copy of this great book for me to read, enjoy and review。 The opinions expressed here are solely my own。 。。。more

Fear on the fens by Joy Ellis。 Detective Nikki Galena Book 13。Detective Nikki Galena and Joseph Easter are called in to find a man who’s been missing for two decades and unravel the painful past of a broken family before anyone else dies。 Can they do it? Brilliant read。 I loved Nikki and her team Niall Aiden Ben Kyle Yvonne and Cat are great。 Also superintended cam。 I love how they work together。 I didn't trust Lucas or Harry at all。 I wasn't sure about Julian or Anita either who were Lucas and Fear on the fens by Joy Ellis。 Detective Nikki Galena Book 13。Detective Nikki Galena and Joseph Easter are called in to find a man who’s been missing for two decades and unravel the painful past of a broken family before anyone else dies。 Can they do it?
