Summary

In the cellar of the old stone cathedral, Carla and Timothy uncover a life-changing treasure, a carefully wrapped ancient book known as The Ology。 What adults might describe as a beautifully illustrated storybook of systematic theology, the kids discover to be a story of adventure, mystery, and wonder that leads them to the truth about God, themselves, and the world around them。

The Ology gives kids of all ages a beginner’s theology book to help them understand who God is and how we, as his children, relate to him。 Arranged within a traditional systematic theological framework, each truth in The Ology is also connected to the larger redemptive story of Scripture。 The doctrine of God, for example, is presented in the larger framework of creation, where the attributes of God are more clearly on display。 The goal is not to say everything that could be said about a theological topic, but rather to share the key thoughts behind a theological concept。

A must read for children and adults!🌼

Good, with perhaps an overreliance of omnibenevolence and a lack of emphasizing the simplicity of God。

Such an excellent read to do with the kiddos! My kids loved reading through this book。

Excellent! Read to Caleb (age 8) in family devotions。 The illustrations and explanations were clear and helpful。 Ideal for ages 6-9。

Loved reading through this with my crew。 My 8 and 6 year old loved looking up the different scripture references and taking turns reading them。 Wonderful way to discuss theology with your children on a level that they understand

The Ology systematically works through the basics of Bible doctrine, including truths about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, sin, God's Word, heaven, and a few more。 It was written in a clear, easy to read style that was understandable for my 6yo, but would be appropriate even for teens。 I missed the fact that there were questions available for each lesson at the back of the book until we were nearly done, but that's not the book's fault。 Each lesson had at least 1-2 correlating Scripture verses wri The Ology systematically works through the basics of Bible doctrine, including truths about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, sin, God's Word, heaven, and a few more。 It was written in a clear, easy to read style that was understandable for my 6yo, but would be appropriate even for teens。 I missed the fact that there were questions available for each lesson at the back of the book until we were nearly done, but that's not the book's fault。 Each lesson had at least 1-2 correlating Scripture verses written out in a frame towards the margin, but many other references were listed around the pictures。 You could use this as I did with my youngest, and simply read each lesson with a couple questions for understanding (~5 min), or it could be the basis for a much more in depth Bible study with older children (or even adults)。 Personally though, I wouldn't recommend using this with children much younger than 6-7。 。。。more

A practical Christian theology that's able to be read on multiple levels and adapted for kids through teens。 Each principle of Christian theology is presented with a couple paragraphs of text in terms middle graders can easily grasp (using illustrations approachable for younger kids too) along with one Bible verse that highlights where we get this from in Scripture。 There's an accompanying illustration surrounded by other Bible references that also relate to the principle。 The topics are divided A practical Christian theology that's able to be read on multiple levels and adapted for kids through teens。 Each principle of Christian theology is presented with a couple paragraphs of text in terms middle graders can easily grasp (using illustrations approachable for younger kids too) along with one Bible verse that highlights where we get this from in Scripture。 There's an accompanying illustration surrounded by other Bible references that also relate to the principle。 The topics are divided into the following chapters: The Ology of God, The Ology of People, The Ology of Sin, The Ology of the Promise and the Law, The Ology of Christ, The Ology of the Holy Spirit, The Ology of Adoption into God's Family, The Ology of Change, The Ology of the Church, The Ology of the End Times, The Ology of God's Word。 There's also a glossary and discussion questions (with answers for adults) in the back of the book。I had a massive theology text from college, that probably could've been replaced by this。 Even though it is succinct and uses textual illustrations aimed at kids, it is sufficient and much easier to grasp than some overly wordy adult theology texts。 This is definitely not meant to be read in huge chunks。 There's a lot to take in here, but I can see it being used a concept at a time for family devotions or for a Christian school's Bible curriculum for the whole year。 It's also beautiful to look at。 A great resource for Christian families and schools。 。。。more

This was an excellent edition to our homeschool morning time this year。 The lessons were short and to the point。 The incorporation of scripture was wonderful。 And the way the author explained the different concepts in ways that kids can understand, using examples from their everyday lives, was fantastic。 My only criticism is that the book starts with two kids finding this old book called "The Ology" but then you don't hear about them again until the very last page。 I think that we just could hav This was an excellent edition to our homeschool morning time this year。 The lessons were short and to the point。 The incorporation of scripture was wonderful。 And the way the author explained the different concepts in ways that kids can understand, using examples from their everyday lives, was fantastic。 My only criticism is that the book starts with two kids finding this old book called "The Ology" but then you don't hear about them again until the very last page。 I think that we just could have skipped that whole plot line, since it wasn't much of a plot anyways。 Just kind of cheesy and unnecessary。 。。。more

Ok。 It's a Systematic Theology for children!!! And it's simply amazing in content and format。 I would never throw aside the tried and true catechisms (Heidelberg, Westminster Shorter, etc。), but taking my daughters through this modern but Biblically based systematic was very rewarding。 Ok。 It's a Systematic Theology for children!!! Loved this book and the truths it holds。 Definitely too old for Lily’s age, but she loves to page through and babble her own words for each picture。 Something we’ll read to her again for sure! We also love The Ology music album。

What a treasure。 We are looking forward to rereading this in 2021。 💕

The highest quality theology/devotional book we’ve gotten our hands on。 Our children loved this book, and I loved how it tackled deep theological concepts at a child’s level。 Highly recommend!!

Very good theological content。 Best for older children, in my opinion。 I was expecting the story of the two kids in the opening chapter to be included throughout the book。 I think that would have helped hold the interest of my younger child。

Read this aloud with my sons over the summer。 It was simple enough for my then 4 year old and led to good discussion with my 10 year。 The illustrations were very nice as well。

I highly recommend this book for kids ages 4-5 and up。 I read this with my daughter and we really enjoyed this book and my daughter learned a lot about God through it。 Marty does a great job of explaining the concepts of God to younger kids。 The artwork is great and the Scripture references make a great gateway to lead kids back to the book and more importantly on to the Bible for God's Word。 I highly recommend this book for kids ages 4-5 and up。 I read this with my daughter and we really enjoyed this book and my daughter learned a lot about God through it。 Marty does a great job of explaining the concepts of God to younger kids。 The artwork is great and the Scripture references make a great gateway to lead kids back to the book and more importantly on to the Bible for God's Word。 。。。more

I read this with my 6 yr old for her Bible time in our homeschool。 The book lends itself well to family devotions。 Each section is short and takes just a couple of minutes to read。 There are also extra Scripture references that could be looked up and discussed。 2020 Read with Julia #covidreader2020 A book about theology

Loved going through this with our elementary age boys。 Deep truth communicated in ways they could understand and engage with。 It led to many great conversations!

I really liked the idea of this book--to provide a biblical/systematic theology for kids。 We read through this as a family over the course of a number of months。 Some of the lessons were pretty good, but overall, I often felt like it was too dumbed down for kids over 6 (my kids are 7 and 10)。 Each of the doctrines received about 2 to 4 relatively brief paragraphs, about half of which were comprised of illustration/analogy。 It felt like the proportion of illustration/analogy to actual doctrine wa I really liked the idea of this book--to provide a biblical/systematic theology for kids。 We read through this as a family over the course of a number of months。 Some of the lessons were pretty good, but overall, I often felt like it was too dumbed down for kids over 6 (my kids are 7 and 10)。 Each of the doctrines received about 2 to 4 relatively brief paragraphs, about half of which were comprised of illustration/analogy。 It felt like the proportion of illustration/analogy to actual doctrine was too high for elementary school kids but that the theological concepts might be too difficult for a kid under 6。 Much of the time, the value from the time reading the book was from our discussion beyond what the book actually said。 So the book was great for us as an instigator of theological conversation for our family but I don't really view the book as an actual source of theological education for my kids。 。。。more

I was expecting to like this book a lot more than I did。 Although the illustrations are and the conservative approach of the theology are what attracted me, I was disappointed with the book。 The Ology of God is redundant。It would be interesting to get a child's perspective on this book Because as an adult I found the illustrations and text rather simple but dense。 Most of the concepts I did read about are far better illustrated by simply learning about the Bible stories and their application ove I was expecting to like this book a lot more than I did。 Although the illustrations are and the conservative approach of the theology are what attracted me, I was disappointed with the book。 The Ology of God is redundant。It would be interesting to get a child's perspective on this book Because as an adult I found the illustrations and text rather simple but dense。 Most of the concepts I did read about are far better illustrated by simply learning about the Bible stories and their application over and over again with someone who understands them。 I would not want to go back to this book as it is too didactic。 。。。more

We slowly read through this children's systematic theology book。 The illustrations are beautifully drawn and the text is very understandable。 Nicely laid out with very short 'chapters' and easily readable with extra verses for each topic if you want to dig deeper。 This is a wonderful guide for parents who want to teach young children systematic theology and 'ancient truths ever new'。 We slowly read through this children's systematic theology book。 The illustrations are beautifully drawn and the text is very understandable。 Nicely laid out with very short 'chapters' and easily readable with extra verses for each topic if you want to dig deeper。 This is a wonderful guide for parents who want to teach young children systematic theology and 'ancient truths ever new'。 。。。more

This is an incredible resource for families。 It's taken us a few years to read the whole thing to our kids and we are starting again at the beginning。 Kids have so many questions about God and I love that this book points us to the answers from Scripture。 This is an incredible resource for families。 It's taken us a few years to read the whole thing to our kids and we are starting again at the beginning。 Kids have so many questions about God and I love that this book points us to the answers from Scripture。 。。。more

We read this together in the mornings as a devotional book, a page a day。 The content is excellent and as the title suggests it focuses on truths from the bible, covering topics such as Sin, God, Adoption, the Church, End times etc。 I will say that this is more for upper Primary school age。 I definitely had to elaborate more and explain things, that I knew some of my kids weren't grasping。 In terms of engagement The Radical Book for Kids was a bigger hit with our kids。 We read this together in the mornings as a devotional book, a page a day。 The content is excellent and as the title suggests it focuses on truths from the bible, covering topics such as Sin, God, Adoption, the Church, End times etc。 I will say that this is more for upper Primary school age。 I definitely had to elaborate more and explain things, that I knew some of my kids weren't grasping。 In terms of engagement The Radical Book for Kids was a bigger hit with our kids。 。。。more

Pretty good。 My girls (6 and 3) really enjoyed the pictures。 They were great conversation starters!
