I keep trying Kerri Maniscalo and I was unsatisfied with Stalking Jack the Ripper and didn’t even finish the second book in that series。 And I couldn’t figure out why because the premise was really cool。 But it’s the same issue as this book。 I’ve figured it out。 It drives me nuts how the book jumps from scene to scene without any wrap-up。 One minute she’s facing down a demon in a cave and the next, she’s cooking in the kitchen with her grandma (who, by the way, is a clumsy character。 Who tells a I keep trying Kerri Maniscalo and I was unsatisfied with Stalking Jack the Ripper and didn’t even finish the second book in that series。 And I couldn’t figure out why because the premise was really cool。 But it’s the same issue as this book。 I’ve figured it out。 It drives me nuts how the book jumps from scene to scene without any wrap-up。 One minute she’s facing down a demon in a cave and the next, she’s cooking in the kitchen with her grandma (who, by the way, is a clumsy character。 Who tells a kid that there’s some huge mystery about their lives and then thinks they’ll never have to explain?)。 It’s a bit like a tv show。 All the boring bits cut out。 But you need the boring bits to understand the narrative and the character。 Oh, I’ll read the next one。 Love the premise and I’m invested。 But the writing style isn’t my favorite。 And for the record, I pegged the murderer in the first 20% of the book。 。。。more

4。0 stars。 Honestly I felt like the book was short。 Like a lot of things happened but not a lot of things explained enough? Like I am left with more questions? I mean I get it it will be a trilogy and we will have the answers in the upcoming books but I couldn’t feel connected enough with what’s going on。 I liked Emilia and Wrath but I wanted more of them together? Like I didn’t exactly feel their interactions were enough to form a connection between them。 I don’t know maybe the second book will 4。0 stars。 Honestly I felt like the book was short。 Like a lot of things happened but not a lot of things explained enough? DNF at 20 percent。 If you're so dumb as to run head first into demon summoning and stupidly use your own blood when things go "conveniently" wrong, then you're not going to be a character I like。 There's so many good reviews, but I'm going to say not for me。 May be that my tastes are changing。 It's been a hard year for me with easy reads。 DNF at 20 percent。 If you're so dumb as to run head first into demon summoning and stupidly use your own blood when things go "conveniently" wrong, then you're not going to be a character I like。 There's so many good reviews, but I'm going to say not for me。 May be that my tastes are changing。 It's been a hard year for me with easy reads。 。。。more

(2。5 but I’m being nice and rounding up) Emilia, at this point, is a beautiful idiot。 She’s so easily angered, manipulated and as a whole kind of helpless。Worst part is she can’t even see how useless and reckless she is until chapter 45。 Beautiful world building when there were snippets of it, Wrath sounds hot, but also what made you think that a book that is about the personification of the 7 deadly sins should be YA??? I can only hope Emilia’s character improves because the premise of the story is so captivating and fun。Like literally 1 thing happened and then it’s Emilia being an absolute f*cking moron for the remainder of the book。 Homegirl’s family is also absolutely useless- they either don’t have magic and the one that does speaks in riddles or lies so you actually don’t know the depth of their power。 。。。more

3。5tbh I have no idea how to feel about this book, as it was oddly addicting at times but then other times it was quite boring and confusing。 I liked the main character Emilia and I mean of course I liked Wrath but I’m confused because I think I’m meant to ship them but they barely interacted through out the book and now I’m like huh?? So I don’t know maybe it will get better in the next one, because this wasn’t bad but there was just something missing from it。

4。5 STARSWitches and demons。 What a fun way to start my October reads。 The book revolves around twin sisters Emilia and Vittoria who are part of a family of witches。 When Vittoria is found murdered, Emilia decides to hunt for her sister’s killer along with Wrath – one of the 7 princes of Hell- whom she was always raised to fear/hate。I was hesitant to read this just because of how varied opinions on it seem to be, but I was completely intrigued by Maniscalco’s building of the world and the realm 4。5 STARSWitches and demons。 What a fun way to start my October reads。 The book revolves around twin sisters Emilia and Vittoria who are part of a family of witches。 When Vittoria is found murdered, Emilia decides to hunt for her sister’s killer along with Wrath – one of the 7 princes of Hell- whom she was always raised to fear/hate。I was hesitant to read this just because of how varied opinions on it seem to be, but I was completely intrigued by Maniscalco’s building of the world and the realm of Hell and how it is devided into the 7 kingdoms of the 7 princes – the deadly sins。 The magic, atmosphere, and scenes were all described so well that it was easy to envision while reading。 I was sucked into this world and didn’t want to put the book down。 Emilia is a strong-willed girl and I love her sass, but goodness gracious along with her stubbornness comes the inability to listen, which causes her to put herself into bad situations multiple times throughout the book because she obviously didn’t learn the first time。 But she’s fiery and I love it。 Let’s see what this bad b**** does next!Wrath is an intriguing one。 I want to know more about him and his background and hopefully we get that in the second book (which I preordered before even finishing this one)。 He’s commanding and fierce and I just want to love him so bad, but with the way the book ended now I’m like “uhm。。 do I love him? Hate him? Help me sort these emotions here, brain。” I love love love a slow burn enemies to lovers so I’m absolutely needing to know what’s coming。The ending felt a tad rushed, but knowing there’s a sequel cancels that out for me because there’s more to come。 。。。more

There are no words to describe how enthralled I am with this new world I just discovered。 As I sit and read I can see and feel everything in this book。 I am so excited to start the 2nd book on this series!!

Recommend if you love books about witches, bit of romance and a bit of adventure/action。 The setting and Italian elements are so well done IMO。 Wrath is absolute 10/10 hotness。 @bxromance on Instagram captured their likeness exactly like I imagined Wrath and Emilia。 Only a teeny bit of spice but I liked the angst between the characters。 The magic elements were really cool and I just loved the vibes and settings。

I am literally so confused right now? that ending what the hell? I have so many questions。I looooved this book, the Italian setting, the lore, the little details of emilia’s cooking, was really cute and I liked that I didn’t really expect her to be the protagonist。 I love a confusing villain though so wrath all ready has me in his house。was it perfect plot writing? no, but I really Enjoyed this storyline and concept so I’ve rounded up to 4 stars for that reason, i just really hope that the secon I am literally so confused right now? that ending what the hell? Fine。 Good enough。 Enjoyable。There's a lot like Kingdom of the Wicked on the market these days。 And unfortunately it doesn't do anything to wow me and make it stand out。 It's pretty middle of the road。 The pacing was really slow too。 Like 50% of the book is the same scenes and conversations repeated in slightly different variations。 I will admit to some skimming。But Maniscalco's writing is compelling enough to keep going。 We'll see if I get the urge to continue the series。 This one was very pred Fine。 Good enough。 Enjoyable。There's a lot like Kingdom of the Wicked on the market these days。 And unfortunately it doesn't do anything to wow me and make it stand out。 It's pretty middle of the road。 The pacing was really slow too。 Like 50% of the book is the same scenes and conversations repeated in slightly different variations。 I will admit to some skimming。But Maniscalco's writing is compelling enough to keep going。 We'll see if I get the urge to continue the series。 This one was very predictable so I'm not sure that'll change going forward。Also that promised steamy romance; non-existent。 FYI。 。。。more

ill write a review when its not 6 am and i feel nothing but seething rage because what in the absolute fuck was that endingupdate 4:10 pm 10/6ok。 im refreshed。 im hydrated。 ive eaten。 and im still pissed about the ending。 if the second book didnt release yesterday (i preordered it a week ago and it should be here in a few days) and i had to WAIT i would be livid。 the last 25 pages were just a big “what the fuck” moment for me。 it didn’t even end on a cliffhanger, it ended on a “tf just happened? ill write a review when its not 6 am and i feel nothing but seething rage because what in the absolute fuck was that endingupdate 4:10 pm 10/6ok。 im refreshed。 im hydrated。 ive eaten。 and im still pissed about the ending。 if the second book didnt release yesterday (i preordered it a week ago and it should be here in a few days) and i had to WAIT i would be livid。 the last 25 pages were just a big “what the fuck” moment for me。 it didn’t even end on a cliffhanger, it ended on a “tf just happened? how did we get here?”first emilia, i dont think i have ever read a character more idiotic than her。 for being born to into a powerful family line of witches, that she was always educated on, this girl is mad dumb。 you are a witch。 you can do magic。 how are you so ignorant to the supernatural world around you? how are you not suspicious of your shady sister who liked to dig up dead bodies from graveyards ALONE at 8 years old? emilia is one of those characters that hears “hey dont do go inside that building you will in fact die” and she giggles and full sprints inside because “no one can tell her what to do”。 i read somewhere that this kotw was like one big cookbook and that was the biggest serotonin boost。 honestly i just kept reading for daddy wrath but only because i am a wh*re for “i hate everyone but you but i even hate you sometimes” trope。 reading this also made me realize i should probably call my therapist。 overall, this story felt like a really really well-written wattpad story。 did i love it? eh? did it make me laugh? yes a lot actually。 will i read the second one? as soon as it touches my mailbox thank u very much。 。。。more

Couldn’t believe I went back to reading YA novels。 The witch and demon world was fairly interesting but there’s just too much going on。 Premise of solving her twin’s crime was good too but again so many other subplots being crammed in。 There were times when I’m just confused as to what’s happening。 A lot of redundancies that could have been edited。 By 80% of the book everything is still a mystery。 Of course just to set up for a sequel like ugh。 Nice try but I guess YA is not for me anymore。

I think I have outgrown a certain category of YA books which seem more geared towards middle-grade readers。 It's very frustrating when you know a story can do better but is falling flat。 However, I will be reading the sequel because the author says that that is NA。 That being said, despite the overwrought descriptions, I loved the setting and atmosphere of the story。 I think I have outgrown a certain category of YA books which seem more geared towards middle-grade readers。 It's very frustrating when you know a story can do better but is falling flat。 However, I will be reading the sequel because the author says that that is NA。 That being said, despite the overwrought descriptions, I loved the setting and atmosphere of the story。 。。。more

4。5 stars。 Wow I enjoyed this so much! I really loved the concept and this story about witches, magic, and seven demon princes modeled after the seven deadly sins。 The pacing was perfect, and the writing was really gripping the entire time。The worldbuilding is also fantastic and it never feels rushed or like an info dump。 You’re slowly immersed in this world as the story unfolds, and the writing draws you in and simply shows you。 I also really liked the characters of Emilia and Wrath。 And that s 4。5 stars。 Wow I enjoyed this so much! Amazing。 I love how for most of this book, their relationship is about a gradual building of trust and trying not to destroy each other—only to discover that they actually do care about each other? That is *chef’s kiss。* I can’t wait to see how their relationship progresses in the next book。 This book really said, “Fuck the societal norms of telling women that they should be quiet and less angry。 Embrace your anger and rage and turn into a weapon of vengeance and justice。” An angry woman is something to be feared and respected。 Also loved the really detailed descriptions of all the amazing foods and Italian cuisine。TW: violence, murder, loss of a loved one 。。。more

This was a fun book and I enjoyed reading it, but I’m finding it very difficult to rate。 There’s a lot to say。Firstly, the writing style was very engaging and atmospheric, similar to the way Sarah J Maas grabs your attention。 The descriptions of the world were lush and enticing and I felt like I knew what it would be like to be there。 I especially liked being so immersed into an occult world from the perspective of a witch, rather than as someone learning about witchcraft for the first time。The This was a fun book and I enjoyed reading it, but I’m finding it very difficult to rate。 There’s a lot to say。Firstly, the writing style was very engaging and atmospheric, similar to the way Sarah J Maas grabs your attention。 The descriptions of the world were lush and enticing and I felt like I knew what it would be like to be there。 I especially liked being so immersed into an occult world from the perspective of a witch, rather than as someone learning about witchcraft for the first time。The characters were very entertaining。 Emilia is brave and daring and has no idea what she’s doing in a very determined way。 The Wicked were all charming in a very alien way, especially Wrath。 I never forgot that he wasn’t human in a very good way。 All of the side characters were also distinct and memorable in their own right。However, this is ultimately a three star read for me because of the mess that is the plot and pacing。The plot is intriguing and each little scene or discovery feels important, like you’re solving a puzzle, but the pieces don’t quite work out。 I’m pretty sure we abandoned clues altogether or had to make assumptions and logic leaps to follow along with others。 I can only imagine Kerri is playing the long game and hopefully things will make sense in Kingdom of the Cursed。The pacing was also frustrating。 It felt like we weren’t really making much progress for a while and then suddenly a lot of things happened all at once。 It felt like we had what is actually a very interesting and engaging plot jumbled up and spread out at random。 Again, I really enjoyed reading this, but I’m not in a rush to read the next one。 。。。more
