Wow!! This book is mind blowing! Not to give away spoilers, but once you get past the initial adjustment to the main character, Ted's narration it becomes addictive! If you can figure out the twist before its announced, you will still be in for some mind blowing twists! Do not read the Afterward until you finish the book, but be sure to read it! Not only did this book grab and request my undivided attention, it really taught me as well。 Wow!! This book is mind blowing! 4。5 stars”You must never, ever let them see who you really are。”<\b>What the fluff did I just read?!!🤯 I have so many thoughts (which I’m still processing), and was so glad I buddy read this! Like I legit pictured Leatherface at one part。 😳I felt like I was taken down a deep rabbit hole and really enjoyed the twists and revelations。 It’s not for everyone, but if you enjoy:- multiple POV’s - Unreliable characters- Talking cats (my fave bits in the book)- Fucked up stories (think along the lines of the movie Glass except without a hero)Then this one’s for you! Some triggers:- there is mention of God, the Lord and bible。 So if you are sensitive to the mention of or topic of religion, this may not be for you。- Mental illness, child abuse, harming of animals, suicide 。。。more

No me esperaba para nada el giro que da esta historia。 Al principio es todo muy confuso, después te vas haciendo una idea de lo que está ocurriendo y, finalmente, no te esperas para nada la verdadera realidad de la trama。 。I was not expecting the twist this story takes at all。At first it is all very confusing, then you get an idea of what is happening and, finally, you do not expect the true reality of the plot at all。

There was something intrinsically wrong with this book or rather with how plainly shocking it was to read it from beginning to end。 It was the type of horror book where you make up your mind at the beginning about who the evil truly is in this book but along the way while reading it, you discover so much more than you bargained for。 This was a story about Ted, a man who lived alone on a street called Needless street。 A man who centered around a little girl who disappeared so long ago with him as There was something intrinsically wrong with this book or rather with how plainly shocking it was to read it from beginning to end。 It was the type of horror book where you make up your mind at the beginning about who the evil truly is in this book but along the way while reading it, you discover so much more than you bargained for。 This was a story about Ted, a man who lived alone on a street called Needless street。 A man who centered around a little girl who disappeared so long ago with him as the prime suspect despite being cleared。 When we first meet him, we are introduced to Lauren and Olivia。。 Lauren his “daughter” who claims to be a kidnap victim & Olivia。。 a cat who doesn’t act like a cat。 Enter Dee, another character and the elder sister of Lulu, the little girl who disappeared so long ago and who Dee is desperate to find。 Unlike the detective of the case, Dee isn’t so sure of Ted’s innocence & when she learns of his daughter Lauren’s name, Dee can’t help but put two and two together as the reader in this point in time does as well。 But here’s the thing。。 the more we get to know Ted, the more we realize that Ted has been through his own fair share of trauma & all may not be as it seems inside his home。 Or in the woods where the “Gods” are buried or most importantly in the events of the past that are just screaming to get out。 。。。more

This was marketed as a horror book。 It is not a horror book。At best it is a mystery/thriller with the most unreliable narrator(s) I’ve ever seen。 I hate unreliable narrators。 If you can’t achieve a twist in your story without straight out lying to your reader then you shouldn’t be writing in this genre。 The timeline of the book is all over the place。 There is a chapter where Ted goes and pawns a picture frame and then a few chapters later the frame is mentioned as being back in the house。 I thou This was marketed as a horror book。 It is not a horror book。At best it is a mystery/thriller with the most unreliable narrator(s) I’ve ever seen。 I hate unreliable narrators。 If you can’t achieve a twist in your story without straight out lying to your reader then you shouldn’t be writing in this genre。 The timeline of the book is all over the place。 There is a chapter where Ted goes and pawns a picture frame and then a few chapters later the frame is mentioned as being back in the house。 I thought maybe there would be a reason for this but now that I have finished the book I think the author was just being sloppy and missed that detail。 The story seemed to drag on and then suddenly everything happened and there were still 100 pages left of monologues basically just trying to wrap up everything and tie up all of the loose ends。It was tedious。 The last chapter was basically “oh yeah I just remembered the time this other thing happened!” I would like to know what happened to the lady with the blue scarf that wasn’t big enough to be a scarf。 I think the author forgot to address that part。 Or all of the other women that Ted catfished online and followed to their cars。 It was heavily implied that he did something with them but then it’s never addressed again。 I feel very generous giving this book 3 stars。 It’s more like 2。5 but goodreads still doesn’t do half stars。 。。。more

Ted lives alone in his childhood home with his cat, Olivia。 Abused as a child, he has turned mostly into a recluse in his adult life, going out to get food when necessary and see his therapist so he can get his meds。 Ted has blocked out the outside world as much as possible, except for his daughter, Lauren, who visits him from time to time。 He boards up all the windows of his house with plywood that just has peepholes drilled into them so he can see in but no one can see out。Dee Dee’s little sis Ted lives alone in his childhood home with his cat, Olivia。 Abused as a child, he has turned mostly into a recluse in his adult life, going out to get food when necessary and see his therapist so he can get his meds。 Ted has blocked out the outside world as much as possible, except for his daughter, Lauren, who visits him from time to time。 He boards up all the windows of his house with plywood that just has peepholes drilled into them so he can see in but no one can see out。Dee Dee’s little sister, Laura, disappeared from the lake close to Ted's house when she was just six years old。 Dee Dee blames herself, even though it wasn’t really her fault。 Ever since her parents died, she has been on a quest to find the individual responsible for kidnapping Laura。 After much investigation and sleuthing, she has concluded that Ted is the guilty party and is hiding her inside his house。THE LAST HOUSE ON NEEDLESS STREET is told from the points of view of several different characters, one of whom is Olivia。 Yes, even the cat gets to offer her perspective, which is a unique way of telling the story。This is a true page-turner。 Just when you think you’ve figured out what is really going on, you’ll probably realize you were wrong as the plot takes many twists and turns along the way, bringing it to an unexpected conclusion。While producing a shocking and immersive read, Catriona Ward gives valuable insight into mental illness and DID (dissociative identity disorder), child abductions, guilt when a sibling is taken away, and plenty of other thought-provoking issues。 Her novel is intriguing, terrifying and informative, all at the same time。Reviewed by Christine M。 Irvin 。。。more

Thank you to a friend for sharing her ARC with me。 Let me start by saying this book will not be for everyone。 The narration is slightly confusing at first。 This also is a decently slow burn。 However, if you know these things going in it will definitely give you better odds! I definitely enjoyed this one。 The writing was unique and the overall story premise was very well done。 The ending was a good fit and did not feel too sloppy or too clean。

The Last House on Needless Street is, quite simply, one of the wildest and most unique books I’ve ever read。 (What would I expect from a book with a blurb from Sarah Pinborough, of the WTF-was-that-ending Behind Her Eyes?)There’s a boarded-up house at the end of Needless Street。 In that house lives a troubled man who doesn't always have a hold on his memory。 His teenage daughter lives there too, and he demands that she stay inside the house。 Then, of course, there's the cat, Olivia。 Oliv The Last House on Needless Street is, quite simply, one of the wildest and most unique books I’ve ever read。 (What would I expect from a book with a blurb from Sarah Pinborough, of the WTF-was-that-ending Behind Her Eyes?)There’s a boarded-up house at the end of Needless Street。 In that house lives a troubled man who doesn't always have a hold on his memory。 His teenage daughter lives there too, and he demands that she stay inside the house。 Then, of course, there's the cat, Olivia。 Olivia isn’t your ordinary cat。You need to know nothing more in order for this book to truly work。This seems like a fairly simple story, but it’s anything but that。 It’s creepy, disturbing, sad, thought-provoking, disorienting at times, and honestly, just so unique。 It may trigger some (I don’t want to spoil anything by listing triggers so DM me if you’re concerned) but reading Catriona Ward’s afterword definitely makes everything make more sense。I can't honestly say if I liked The Last House on Needless Street, but I admire the way it all worked together。 And if you're a fan of audiobooks, apparently this is one you should listen to。Thanks to Storygram Tours and Tor Nightfire for inviting me on the tour and providing me a complimentary advance copy of the book in exchange for an unbiased review。 This is a perfect book for spooky season!See all of my reviews at itseithersadnessoreuphoria。blogspot。com。Follow me on Instagram at https://www。instagram。com/the。bookishworld。of。yrralh/。 。。。more

The House on Needless Street is a book that gives so much but it also takes something back from the reader, you get invested but it also gets your heart。 Who is the actual victim here is the real question。 There are some strong Silence of the Lambs vibes that I liked and hated at the same time because they were hard to read, and I knew that once I finished it, each page would read differently with the eyes of the person who knows the whole story。 I think going into this as blind as possible is t The House on Needless Street is a book that gives so much but it also takes something back from the reader, you get invested but it also gets your heart。 Who is the actual victim here is the real question。 There are some strong Silence of the Lambs vibes that I liked and hated at the same time because they were hard to read, and I knew that once I finished it, each page would read differently with the eyes of the person who knows the whole story。 I think going into this as blind as possible is the best way to enjoy it。 Know nothing about it, expect a lot back。 If anything I think this is a story about survival done in a very interesting way。 。。。more

I had to wait agonizing months to read this and I was worried it might disappoint after all the buildup in my head。 Thankfully, it didn't disappoint at all。 Ward's writing is so lush and precise and even funny sometimes, and the story peels back in such carefully revealed layers that I didn't fully get my footing until the end。 I had to wait agonizing months to read this and I was worried it might disappoint after all the buildup in my head。 Thankfully, it didn't disappoint at all。 Ward's writing is so lush and precise and even funny sometimes, and the story peels back in such carefully revealed layers that I didn't fully get my footing until the end。 。。。more

Wow! This book is deep。 It takes a lot to get your head round the plot, characters and what really happened。 It’s so clever, and is a really good way to honour people who have struggled with DCD。 Really eye opening book。

If I can clock the twist in the first two (2) pages of a book, along with the entire layout of the plot - it is certainly not a book worth reading。 I simply do not have the energy to describe how dreadfully disappointing this book was for me。

Rounded up from 2。5I am among the minority that just did not enjoy this book。 There was so much hype about ir but it just missed the mark for me。 I feel like there was just too much going on for me and it left me disappointed。That being said, I still think you should give it ago。 Clearly others loved it!

4。5 stars and I'm torn on this one。 It's a very confusing sort of listen and I believe that is very intentional。 If you can stick with it。。。the payoff is very much worth it。 I now want to listen to this one a second time now that I know how it all comes together and I think it would be more enjoyable a second time through。 Not doing that right now。。。but if I do and that ends up being the case then this will definitely get bumped up to a 5 star read for me。 4。5 stars and I'm torn on this one。 It's a very confusing sort of listen and I believe that is very intentional。 If you can stick with it。。。the payoff is very much worth it。 I now want to listen to this one a second time now that I know how it all comes together and I think it would be more enjoyable a second time through。 Not doing that right now。。。but if I do and that ends up being the case then this will definitely get bumped up to a 5 star read for me。 。。。more

The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward is just what I needed to start the spooky season。 It is a book that grips you from page one and doesn’t let go until the last page。 This dark, twisted tale has multiple POVs that allows readers to really see how many layers there are to this story。 Just when I thought I knew where the story was headed, I was completely wrong。 We follow Ted, a man who is a loner with a boarded up house。 He lives with his cat and a daughter occasionally, but does The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward is just what I needed to start the spooky season。 It is a book that grips you from page one and doesn’t let go until the last page。 This dark, twisted tale has multiple POVs that allows readers to really see how many layers there are to this story。 Just when I thought I knew where the story was headed, I was completely wrong。 We follow Ted, a man who is a loner with a boarded up house。 He lives with his cat and a daughter occasionally, but does not interact with many other people。 Dee thinks Ted has something to do with her sisters disappearance so she moves onto Needless Street to catch Ted or find her sister。 Catriona Ward does a fantastic job setting the scene for a story that leaves you uneasy, creeped out and overall fascinated by the events taking place。 The audiobook narrator also did a fantastic job giving voice to the characters while staying with the vibe of the book。 I think I was even more spooked and creeped out listening to the audiobook then if I read it on my own。 Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Ok it's gonna be hard to review this one。 It was the weirdest book I've read in a really long time。 We have a cat POV which is all kinds of crazy but at the same time it was an amazing book。 I've had to sit for a bit on my rating as very unsure but I keep coming back to 4 stars。 Will take a me a bit of time to get over this one but definitely recommend a read。 Ok it's gonna be hard to review this one。 It was the weirdest book I've read in a really long time。 We have a cat POV which is all kinds of crazy but at the same time it was an amazing book。 I've had to sit for a bit on my rating as very unsure but I keep coming back to 4 stars。 Will take a me a bit of time to get over this one but definitely recommend a read。 。。。more
