Summary

Soaring ambition。 Unwavering integrity。 Billie Joe Armstrong isn't the first punk to negotiate mainstream success, but he might be its most undisguised example。 In Welcome to my Panic, Green Day's iconic front man holds nothing back as he tracks listeners though his deeply personal and artistic journey in raw detail。

Matching his emotional storytelling with new, exclusive, recordings of Green Day's biggest hits including “Basket Case”, “Good Riddance”, “Wake Me Up When September Ends”, and “American Idiot”, Armstrong chronicles the seminal moments in his life: the trauma and triumphs that have come to define him。 As we listen, Billie Joe reminds us punk rock is not about how hard you can play but how hard you can remain yourself。

Wasn't a huuuge fan of Green Day growing up but saw them recently for my kid's 10th birthday and thought I'd give it a try。 It was interesting to hear his philosophy and things that happened behind the scenes。 The audiobook had a few songs in between chapters and the stories behind them gave them new meaning to me。 Wasn't a huuuge fan of Green Day growing up but saw them recently for my kid's 10th birthday and thought I'd give it a try。 It was interesting to hear his philosophy and things that happened behind the scenes。 The audiobook had a few songs in between chapters and the stories behind them gave them new meaning to me。 。。。more

Recommend to anyone that ever had even a remote interest in Green Day at any point in their lives。 Billie Joe Armstrong touched on some really poignant and culturally relevant topics that I think I lot of people can identify with, especially regarding addiction and mental health。 “Other people’s stories tell our story。” A really well thought out and presented narration。

It’s like following the memory lane of one the rock and roll hall of farmers as a neutral observer。 Kinda felt like I am in the Harry Potter world- following him over his shoulder。

This is another satisfying hour of music and the story behind the music from Audible's Words + Music series。 Green Day has created some great songs so this was a very enjoyable listen。 This is another satisfying hour of music and the story behind the music from Audible's Words + Music series。 Green Day has created some great songs so this was a very enjoyable listen。 。。。more

"When people write about how they are older and wiser, I think God, that sounds so boring。 Wisdom is so overrated。 I love writing from a perspective of my younger self。 It's just honest emotion--it goes back to the songs I wrote about girls, lost love, things like that。 You have to be in that place of--gosh, almost naivety。 That's what being young feels like。 I think people cheer for Green Day as far as being able to wear your heart on your sleeve。"As a Green Day longhauler (it's been about 12 y "When people write about how they are older and wiser, I think God, that sounds so boring。 Wisdom is so overrated。 I love writing from a perspective of my younger self。 It's just honest emotion--it goes back to the songs I wrote about girls, lost love, things like that。 You have to be in that place of--gosh, almost naivety。 That's what being young feels like。 I think people cheer for Green Day as far as being able to wear your heart on your sleeve。"As a Green Day longhauler (it's been about 12 years since I first got into them), this felt like a warm hug。 Just gorgeous--and very illuminating as to how hard and draining the creative process can be, especially when you're in what's considered one of the biggest rock bands in the world and you are also very, very hard on and demanding of yourself。 I love Billie Joe, probably always will。 Green Day's music was such a constitutive, vital part of my growing up that it's hard not to get emotional when I think about them。The acoustic versions of the songs were amazing。 Especially Basket Case, American Idiot and Graffittia--it's scary that they can still sound just as good and make really good records *checks* almost 35 years into their career。 And I loved the "improvised" feel of the narration。 He didn't read from a pre-written script, he seemed to be thinking of what to say in the spot。 Not in a bad way。 It was very informative as to the early years of the band and what was going on behind the scenes throughout the recording of their albums, particularly Billie's struggles with mental health, and how that inspired one of their most well-known songs Basket Case。 I have nothing but love for this guy。 ❤️ 。。。more

I loved green day when I was younger。 I find it fascinating that he is apparently still LDS even though he swears and drinks and does drugs。 Or maybe he went back to the church after rehab? He doesn't talk about that aspect at all。 It seemed more like a question and answer session where we don't get to hear the questions。 It was entered enough at just an hour and a half。 But honestly? Starting with saying that punk rock created cancel culture? Way to broadcast your white privilege。 I loved green day when I was younger。 I find it fascinating that he is apparently still LDS even though he swears and drinks and does drugs。 Or maybe he went back to the church after rehab? I'd rate this higher if it was more of a complete story - it's kind of an outlined history of Billie Joe's involvement with Green Day。 Good listening though。 Excellent music in the audiobook too! I had the very pleasure of being born in 1987 and growing up in the 90s, and Green Day was a monumental band that shaped my childhood and shaped my teenage years。This Audible Original is short, at an hour and 29 minutes long, it was nice to listen to while doing some house chores。 Billie Joe does go into the beginning of the band, how they became who they were, and he talks about the hardships in his life as well。 It's not anything crazy, but just a glimpse of him and Green Day and how it all st I had the very pleasure of being born in 1987 and growing up in the 90s, and Green Day was a monumental band that shaped my childhood and shaped my teenage years。This Audible Original is short, at an hour and 29 minutes long, it was nice to listen to while doing some house chores。 Billie Joe does go into the beginning of the band, how they became who they were, and he talks about the hardships in his life as well。 It's not anything crazy, but just a glimpse of him and Green Day and how it all started。 I so wish this could have been a little longer, but the length is perfect to get just taste of how it all began for him and the band etc。 I recommend if you're a fan, like how I've been since the early 90s。 。。。more

More disjointed than the Tom Morello version (edited interview vs composed stage show), but good enough for what it is。 Man, I love Green Day, though。 (We had a casual connection to Mike Dirnt before he moved, and I’m happy to report that both he and his wife were very nice and extremely cool。)

We all have our Green Day stories。The first time I heard Basketcase it was 1994, I was eleven and smooshed in the backseat of my parents car。 They were in the front, and my two sisters and one brother and I were all in the backseat。 It was raining。 I even remember we were driving down Foothill Blvd at the time in Rancho Cucamonga where I grew up。 The song came on the radio and I was absolutely riveted。After that Green Day became MY band。 I listened to them constantly。 I tracked down the side ban We all have our Green Day stories。The first time I heard Basketcase it was 1994, I was eleven and smooshed in the backseat of my parents car。 They were in the front, and my two sisters and one brother and I were all in the backseat。 It was raining。 I even remember we were driving down Foothill Blvd at the time in Rancho Cucamonga where I grew up。 The song came on the radio and I was absolutely riveted。After that Green Day became MY band。 I listened to them constantly。 I tracked down the side bands。 I had shirts I wore to pieces。 Any magazine or book that had them in it had to be mine。 I went to many many shows as I grew older。 I idolized Billie Joe。Over time the level of my enthusiasm began to fade。 I think I have one Green Day shirt now as opposed to dozens。 I still listen to them often and I still have the softest spot for Billie Joe。 I loved this and how much performing his music matters to him still。 I enjoyed hearing about the circumstances and thought processes behind these songs, too。 Definitely an excellent listen for fans。 。。。more

Green Day was my "gateway" band。 By which I mean the band that prepared me for heavier rock bands。 I used to listen to the entire Dookie album ten times a day。 That's really the only Green Day album I've ever liked。 So, I wouldn't call myself a big fan but after listening to this I'm now looking forward to giving their other albums a second chance。 Billie Joe comes off as a real down to earth guy who embraces his flaws and accepts the fact that no one is perfect。 I like that。 Green Day was my "gateway" band。 By which I mean the band that prepared me for heavier rock bands。 I used to listen to the entire Dookie album ten times a day。 That's really the only Green Day album I've ever liked。 So, I wouldn't call myself a big fan but after listening to this I'm now looking forward to giving their other albums a second chance。 Billie Joe comes off as a real down to earth guy who embraces his flaws and accepts the fact that no one is perfect。 I like that。 。。。more

“Welcome to My Panic” by Billie Joe Armstrong ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This is very much like an interview rather than an audiobook and I’m totally okay with that。 A short recount of Green Day’s history with its lead singer, Billie Joe goes into detail about his life and his passion for songwriting。 Billie is open and honest about his grief at his dad’s passing, his anxiety and his abuse of drugs and alcohol。 This is simply just a man telling you a story。 Something Billie does bet。 Not to mention that he sings s “Welcome to My Panic” by Billie Joe Armstrong ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This is very much like an interview rather than an audiobook and I’m totally okay with that。 A short recount of Green Day’s history with its lead singer, Billie Joe goes into detail about his life and his passion for songwriting。 Billie is open and honest about his grief at his dad’s passing, his anxiety and his abuse of drugs and alcohol。 This is simply just a man telling you a story。 Something Billie does bet。 Not to mention that he sings some stripped down, acoustic versions of certain songs like “Brain Stew,” “American Idiot” and “When September Ends。” 。。。more

I'm not a person who tends to learn a lot about the people behind the band or movies or whatever, so I went into this knowing basically nothing about Armstrong。 It was great。 I liked his style of speaking and the way he narratively walks us through his experiences。 I also was delighted by the acoustic versions of some Greenday favorites。 I didn't know he identified as bi until I heard Basket case with the pronoun for the sex worker changed from she to he。 That made my queer heart happy :) I'm not a person who tends to learn a lot about the people behind the band or movies or whatever, so I went into this knowing basically nothing about Armstrong。 It was great。 I liked his style of speaking and the way he narratively walks us through his experiences。 I also was delighted by the acoustic versions of some Greenday favorites。 I didn't know he identified as bi until I heard Basket case with the pronoun for the sex worker changed from she to he。 That made my queer heart happy :) 。。。more

Quick, interesting listen。 I've been a fan of Green Day since high school, and I appreciated listening to Billie Joe Armstrong's perspective on moments in time in not only his life, but also in the life of Green Day。 The mix of spoken word and song is cool。 Big fan of this series from Audible。 Quick, interesting listen。 I've been a fan of Green Day since high school, and I appreciated listening to Billie Joe Armstrong's perspective on moments in time in not only his life, but also in the life of Green Day。 The mix of spoken word and song is cool。 Big fan of this series from Audible。 。。。more

An interesting, simple, and very short autobiography。 I wouldn’t exactly classify this as an audiobook。 It was more like an interview and Billie Joe clearly had no script or anything。 The content is not at all groundbreaking or eye-opening。 I could’ve learned just as much by reading his Wikipedia page。 There was no “moral to the story” or underlying message either。 Still, it was enjoyable and informative since I didn’t know much about Billie Joe’s life or career before。 I appreciated the fact th An interesting, simple, and very short autobiography。 I wouldn’t exactly classify this as an audiobook。 It was more like an interview and Billie Joe clearly had no script or anything。 The content is not at all groundbreaking or eye-opening。 I could’ve learned just as much by reading his Wikipedia page。 There was no “moral to the story” or underlying message either。 Still, it was enjoyable and informative since I didn’t know much about Billie Joe’s life or career before。 I appreciated the fact that he spoke candidly about his mental health issues specifically his anxiety。 Especially as someone who struggles with anxiety, I think representation is so important。 Hearing him speak about his mental health also made him seem more relatable and human。 If you’re a Green Day fan, I think this is worth listening to。 。。。more
