I'd equate the reading of this book to seeing a good Marvel Universe movie。 It is best read (seen) in order but is easily digestible and packed with action。 If you enjoy mostly intelligent sci-fi combined with military themes and fun characters with snappy dialog, then this may be in your wheelhouse。I'm looking forward to book 5 so Chaney must be doing something right!~ Kort I'd equate the reading of this book to seeing a good Marvel Universe movie。 It is best read (seen) in order but is easily digestible and packed with action。 If you enjoy mostly intelligent sci-fi combined with military themes and fun characters with snappy dialog, then this may be in your wheelhouse。I'm looking forward to book 5 so Chaney must be doing something right!~ Kort 。。。more

What a let down!!!。。。Horrible book。。。just a repeat of every previous idea lumped together。。。and the attempt at making the main characters darker, and twisting the plot by the obvious device of corrupting Piper, not only falls totally flat, but also ruins the previous books storyline。 I think they ran out of ideas and just jumped into soap opera politics。 How can you stoop so low as to have a child run your storyline and adults around like she has a ring in their noses???。。。absolute rubbish compa What a let down!!!。。。Horrible book。。。just a repeat of every previous idea lumped together。。。and the attempt at making the main characters darker, and twisting the plot by the obvious device of corrupting Piper, not only falls totally flat, but also ruins the previous books storyline。 I think they ran out of ideas and just jumped into soap opera politics。 How can you stoop so low as to have a child run your storyline and adults around like she has a ring in their noses???。。。absolute rubbish compared to the previous books。Will not be reading the rest of the series due to this blunder of a book。 And just to add, there are now way too many characters who have not been fleshed out。 。。。more

Devastation in this book。 Heartbreak and profound sadness。Some characters are lost to us, this book has great sadness。 Miscommunication, misunderstanding just unfortunate decisions made。 Deeply saddened, hoping things look up in next book。

I like this series。 It has some wonderful characters, the good guys, and some horrible characters, the bad guys。 There’s no confusing the two, except when some of the good guys don’t know who they are working for!Our band of good guys have grouped together and have just won a small skirmish on planet Ithnor Ithelia, which is in the meta-verse far from the normal universe。 They had defeated a detachment of Recon Marines in a bloody battle。 They thought that now they would have some time to sit do I like this series。 It has some wonderful characters, the good guys, and some horrible characters, the bad guys。 There’s no confusing the two, except when some of the good guys don’t know who they are working for!Our band of good guys have grouped together and have just won a small skirmish on planet Ithnor Ithelia, which is in the meta-verse far from the normal universe。 They had defeated a detachment of Recon Marines in a bloody battle。 They thought that now they would have some time to sit down and think of what else they needed to do back home。 But, Moldark didn’t give them that time, at least not right away。 While their recent battle had been on the ground, now, the space around Ithnor Ithelia was full of starfighters and a heavy cruiser。 They had followed Ambiola and Rohoar’s ship and now were preparing to attack the Novia Minoosh starship Spire。Magnus and his combat warriors were still on the surface awaiting lift-off of their shuttles。 What they didn’t want was for the shuttles to get half-way to the Spire and then be attacked by the Republic starfighters。 Still, Magnus wanted to be where the fighting was happening so he needed to get the shuttles launched。 But, Azelon, the AI running the Spire did not agree with Magnus and made it so the shuttles couldn’t take off。 She was quite capable of defending the Spire and would only be distracted if she had to help the shuttles at the same time。 Magnus had no idea if the Spire even had any offensive weapons or what kind of defenses the starship could employ。 It turns out that he shouldn’t have been worried since the Spire quickly and easily defeated all the starfighters and even destroyed the heavy cruiser using their own missiles against them! Actually, one starfighter did survive although the did crash on Ithnor Ithelia only to be captured by Magnus and his warriors。 Commander Ricio Longo had been working under orders directly from Moldark to find and destroy everything he encountered on and over the planet。 Since he was now a captive, that wasn’t going to happen。 Additionally, Magnus’s forces had captured one of the Recon Marines, Nos Kil, who had a bad history with Magnus。 This guy was a very evil man and was supposed to be spending his life securely locked away in a military prison。 Why he was out and operating with the Recon Marines was a mystery to Magnus。 Nos Kil will become responsible for turning Piper against Magnus。 He’ll tell Piper a bunch of dreadful lies which Piper won’t have the sense to believe are lies coming from this vile man。 Something also happens during the battle at Worru which is even worse and further separates Piper even from Awen。 This becomes the dark part of the story and it will be interesting to see how it ends。I know there is another book either coming or already out。 I plan to read it as soon as I can。 。。。more

Although I'd kind of like larger breaks between the action I can't fault the author for his story and writing。 There is at least 1 more book in the series so I'll see how that goes。 Although I'd kind of like larger breaks between the action I can't fault the author for his story and writing。 There is at least 1 more book in the series so I'll see how that goes。 。。。more

More please, more!Another great instalment from messrs Chaney and Hopper。 This instalment sees our heroic band of misfits continue in their attempts to prevent all out war and Galactic meltdown。 As is becoming usual we are left with an almighty cliffhanger! Excellent fun reading。 Addictive。 You have been warned!

Well written and paced, but I had some issues with the characters in this one。 There will be spoilers, so everything following a conditional "If you liked it so far you'll probably like this too" will be a rant about some stuff that would ruin it for you。 I actually dropped this down a star since it pissed me off so much。 HERE BE SPOILERS (but I need to rant, so allons-y)。One of the things that drives me nuts in any story/movie is when the protagonists are too stupid/soft to remove threats when Well written and paced, but I had some issues with the characters in this one。 There will be spoilers, so everything following a conditional "If you liked it so far you'll probably like this too" will be a rant about some stuff that would ruin it for you。 I actually dropped this down a star since it pissed me off so much。 HERE BE SPOILERS (but I need to rant, so allons-y)。One of the things that drives me nuts in any story/movie is when the protagonists are too stupid/soft to remove threats when they have the chance。 Magnus upon capturing Nos Kil should have capped him as soon as he'd used the MIND-READING mystics on board to plunder any useful intel from him。 Instead, he allowed himself to be goaded into a perfectly predictable and avoidable fight that he lost, only being saved from a mortal wound at the last second by one of the aforementioned psychics。Kill him now you say? No。 THIS MAKES NO SENSE and leads to dire and eminently avoidable consequences later。 After all of that, Magnus tries again: the definition of insanity is said to be doing something again and expecting a different result。 Magnus should be removed from command as he is incompetent, but only because he is rather miraculously still alive when he really shouldn't be。 Even better, Piper had a near-worshipful attachment to Magnus, yet somehow is convinced by the first person who comes along, a mortal enemy* of her hero no less, that Magnus is a murdering child molestor (*in fact the one who did the things he accuses Magnus of)。 I will also suggest that if you're planning a major op and your major "weapon" is a 9-yr-old super psyker who has a sudden and disturbing personality shift, resolving this is mission-critical (see removal for incompetence above)。 An analogy is your CAS drivers suddenly acting hostile and evasive toward the force commander。 I won't even get into Awen's decision about her nemesis when she had had him at her mercy。I'm doing the math on the protagonists chances, and with the loss and corruption of Piper they are boned。 I have to assume we're being set up for big moves in the next book, but the authors will need to dance pretty fast to dig this one out。 It's not often I get this incensed about a book I otherwise liked, but this one contorted itself too much in pursuit of drama when there was already plenty to be found in the plot。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This is my least favorite book in this series so far。 The entire story line centered on Piper believing horrible things that Nos Kil told her about Magnus。 The manipulation of a child seems to be a very weak way to move the story along。

Found and lost。 The Galla Umbra have defeated the squad of marines sent to steal from the planet。 One, Nos Kil is captured iso killed and proves to be a snake in the grass。 The viper squadron and cruiser sent to retrieve the marines cause consternation。 There is still a lot to be done and Magnus isn’t sure if they’ll get past the navy。 Neither does he know the heartbreak ahead of him。

Sooo GoodNot meaning to beat a dead horse。。。 this series is awesome。 Ever unfolding and intriguing storyline, you can’t help but feel like you are there。 Subplots and twists aren’t just stuck in along the way but have been building until the right time to spring them on the reader。

Void Horizon。 J。N。 ChaneyEven though this novel is set well into the future, the motives, ambitions always remain the same。 The struggle for Power, dominance and people of different origins, species who will fight for freedom and injustice。 Whatever the cost。 This is an excellent read! My highest recommendation。

Another great book in the Ruins saga! This is easily the best book, so far, in a series of great books。 This installment of the series takes the characters in some interesting directions。 I love the way the characters are evolving。

Chaney and Hopper do it again! These guys keep on delivering great stories and I’ll keep reading until they stop。 Void Horizon had a lot of tension and the cliffhangers made it exciting。 Can’t wait for book 5!
