I basically read this book in a day because I was dying to see what was going to happen in the story, and the short chapters really made this readable! I would definitely recommend this book if you are a fan of Lisa Jewell, enjoy a more slow burn thriller, and enjoy a book with multiple perspectives and timelines! 。。。more

4。5 ⭐️ rounded up!I thoroughly enjoyed this book, excellent。The storyline & characters were really well thought out!You could really get inside the character of Kim & feel her pain, frustration & emptiness。I felt for Tallullah, a young mum, a controlling boyfriend, and a need to fit in & be a teenager。 She tried to balance it all but was naive & influenced by the troubled rich girl, Scarlett。Sophie aka Nancy Drew was a little annoying at times but I understood her relevance to the plot。The outly 4。5 ⭐️ rounded up!I thoroughly enjoyed this book, excellent。The storyline & characters were really well thought out!You could really get inside the character of Kim & feel her pain, frustration & emptiness。I felt for Tallullah, a young mum, a controlling boyfriend, and a need to fit in & be a teenager。 She tried to balance it all but was naive & influenced by the troubled rich girl, Scarlett。Sophie aka Nancy Drew was a little annoying at times but I understood her relevance to the plot。The outlying characters fitted into the plot really well & I was left guessing until towards the end but still shocked by what really happened on that fateful night & beyond。The only disappointment was it finished up rather quickly & some of the storyline was rushed in regards to the police solving the mystery which wouldn’t have happened without Sophie (which was a little unlikely when you really thought about it)。Overall a great read。 。。。more

Wow, this is definitely going on my list of favorite books of all time。 Which says A LOT bc the only other book I’ve read of hers (Then she was gone) was one of my least。 Lisa Jewell has officially won me over。 I rarely find myself caring about characters within a thriller but damn… this one really got me。 10/10 recommend。 This is the kind of book you can read in one sitting bc you just need to know what happens next。

The Night She Disappeared is a mystery/thriller。 I've read the author's last 6 books。 So I was really looking forward to reading this new book。This book takes place in the UK and is divided into 5 parts。The story is divided into 3 timelines。 One timeline starts in June 2017。 The second starts in August 2018。 And the last starts in September 2016。 We have 3rd person POVs of Kim (a 40 year old grandmother), Tallulah (Kim's 19 year old daughter) and Sophie (a 34 year old cozy mystery writer)。I don' The Night She Disappeared is a mystery/thriller。 I've read the author's last 6 books。 So I was really looking forward to reading this new book。This book takes place in the UK and is divided into 5 parts。The story is divided into 3 timelines。 One timeline starts in June 2017。 The second starts in August 2018。 And the last starts in September 2016。 We have 3rd person POVs of Kim (a 40 year old grandmother), Tallulah (Kim's 19 year old daughter) and Sophie (a 34 year old cozy mystery writer)。I don't always love multiple POVs and timelines。 But in this case I think that it worked。 The back and forth between these timelines made for a very intriguing book。 I enjoyed reading about Kim's struggles and I really enjoyed reading about Sophie and what she was figuring out in 2018。 For me the least exciting POV was Tallulah's (although it definitely got more and more interesting)。The book is about a young couple that goes missing。 And I really enjoyed learning more about what happened。 I particularly loved the amateur sleuths in the book trying to figure things out。I think that the beginning and ending were the strongest parts of the book。 Parts in the middle were a bit slower。 But overall this was a very fascinating and entertaining thriller。Thanks to netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for allowing me to read this book。 。。。more

Lisa Jewell consistently writes books I love to read。 The first book I read of hers was Watching You, and this book, The Night She Disappeared is my 5th book by this now favorite author。 All books I’ve read thus far have been riveting reads, but I have to say this new one, The Night She Disappeared, has catapulted to the top of the list as my favorite。 It’s a book you want to read nonstop until the end, but it’s also a book you don’t want to end。 Tallulah Murphy is a teenage mother in 2017, livi Lisa Jewell consistently writes books I love to read。 The first book I read of hers was Watching You, and this book, The Night She Disappeared is my 5th book by this now favorite author。 All books I’ve read thus far have been riveting reads, but I have to say this new one, The Night She Disappeared, has catapulted to the top of the list as my favorite。 It’s a book you want to read nonstop until the end, but it’s also a book you don’t want to end。 Tallulah Murphy is a teenage mother in 2017, living with her mother, raising her baby boy, and going to college。 The baby’s father has recently come to live with them, and Zach seems to finally be taking to fatherhood now, helping with Noah and working to save money for a place of their own。 Tallulah’s mom, Kim, helps it all work, too。 Kim has always held her family together, providing for and nurturing Tallulah and her brother Ryan after their father left them。 Kim is happy that Tallulah and Zach and Noah seem on a good path to self-sufficiency。 On a warm summer night in June, Kim babysits Noah as Tallulah and Zach go out to the local pub for dinner and a celebration of sorts, an evening Kim suspects might end in a proposal。 But, when the teenagers don’t return by the next morning, Kim knows that something is very wrong。 After asking around, she discovers that the two accompanied some other young people their age from the pub to a girl’s house。 Kim goes to the house, which turns out to be a monstrosity of opulent excess in the woods, but the girl named Scarlett and her mother say that Lula (what friends call her) and Zach left the party together in the late hours。 When Kim runs out of people to question, she reports her daughter and Zach as missing to the Upfield Common police。 An investigation is opened, but even after a search of the woods, the question of where the couple disappeared to is still wide open。 A year later, there’s a new headmaster at Maypole School, the exclusive boarding school located in Upfield Common for affluent students needing a second chance after flunking their GCSEs and their A levels。 Shaun, the new headmaster and his girlfriend Sophie move into the headmaster’s cottage, which is on the edge of the school grounds and by the woods, which also run by Scarlett’s house and so were searched, without result when Tahulla and Zach were reported missing。 Sophie is an author of a cozy detective mystery series, and thus, she is intrigued when she comes upon a sign on the fence at the end of their cottage grounds that reads, “Dig Here。” At first, she ignores it, but after a couple of days, she at last gives in and digs。 What she finds draws her into the mystery of the missing teens and leads to a meeting with Kim。 It would seem someone knows something, and Sophie and Kim become determined to find out who it is and what they know。The dual timelines, 2017 and 2018, of then and now, the year of the disappearance and a year later, reveal the story to the reader through different perspectives。 There is also a 2016 timeline, which gives the readers their insight into Tallulah’s life leading up to where the book opens in 2017。 2016 gives some vital information of what’s truly going on with Tallulah in her life, not just what her mom Kim thinks, and it makes Tallulah’s character the most developed in the book。 The alternating timelines are well balanced and give nothing about the ending away at all。 It’s still a gobsmacking answer to what happened to Tallulah and Zach。Like the darkness slowly creeping across your lawn at dusk, this book’s pacing brings on the darkness bit by bit of two people disappearing without a trace。 While some might consider the pace too slow, I thought it was just right。 A slow pace for sure, but one that unfolds the clues and backstory with a slow burn, a burn that explodes at the perfect moment。 There’s a feeling that something big is lurking just around the corner, and I found that thrilling。 With 465 pages, I can’t think of anything that should have been left out。 Even the epilogue served a purpose, but you might need to think carefully about why it's added and what it reveals。 From the creepy crawly prologue about arachnophobia and the dark to the breathtaking end, The Night She Disappeared is page after page a mesmerizing story。 It is high on my list of favorite reads for 2021, and I think it is Lisa Jewel’s best book to date。 。。。more

This would make a great Netflix limited series ala the Harlen Coben's they've done。 Also if you read this and liked it try Tana French's The Secret Place which is another psychological thriller with some Dark Academia overtones。 Come find me on #bookstagram @museignitedreads 。。。more

The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell is a slow burning mystery/thriller read。 This story is told in three different timelines with one in 2016, one in 2017 and then again in 2018。 During these different times in the story there is also changes in the point of view。In June of 2017, Kim is babysitting her grandson as her teenage daughter and her boyfriend are having a date night。 Kim knows that raising a baby is tough enough but with her daughter doing it at such a young age she wants her to h The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell is a slow burning mystery/thriller read。 This story is told in three different timelines with one in 2016, one in 2017 and then again in 2018。 During these different times in the story there is also changes in the point of view。In June of 2017, Kim is babysitting her grandson as her teenage daughter and her boyfriend are having a date night。 Kim knows that raising a baby is tough enough but with her daughter doing it at such a young age she wants her to have a little time out。 However, the next day Kim finds that her daughter and her boyfriend never returned from their night out。In August of 2018, Sophie is just moving into the cottage that came with her boyfriend’s new job at the local school。 As Sophie gets moved in she comes across a real life mystery that reminds her of those in her books when she reads the story of the young couple that disappeared the year before。 What Sophie never expected though after hearing the story was finding a clue in her own backyard to the disappearance。Despite this book having so many different times and POVs to follow Lisa Jewell showed why she’s such a popular author making the story very easy to follow and understand。 Each of the characters were distinct so I knew exactly which viewpoint and period in time each time they changed。 And also, being someone that usually gets a little bored with slow moving stories I never found that happening and flew right through the book。 The book is also divided into sections which I thought of a bit like markers for each layer of the story that got peeled back and discovered along the way and was completely engrossed in finding out what happened right up to the final twist at the end。I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley。For more reviews please visit https://carriesbookreviews。com/ 。。。more

HUGE shout out to Atria for sending me an early copy! I will forever want ARCs of Lisa Jewell’s books! I honestly didn’t know too much about this before reading it and it worked out wonderfully。 Classic Lisa Jewell with multiple POVs and multiple timelines but in this one you know fairly early on how the POVs and timelines match up! That was so refreshing and did wonders for me personally。 Instead of trying to piece everything together I felt pretty much immediately cemented into the narrative a HUGE shout out to Atria for sending me an early copy! I honestly didn’t know too much about this before reading it and it worked out wonderfully。 Classic Lisa Jewell with multiple POVs and multiple timelines but in this one you know fairly early on how the POVs and timelines match up! That was so refreshing and did wonders for me personally。 Instead of trying to piece everything together I felt pretty much immediately cemented into the narrative and was just able to enjoy the ride。 I can’t imagine being in Kim’s shoes。 Her daughter has been missing for over a year and she just wants to know what happened! She knows something happened and she has done everything in her power to work with the police and get to the bottom of it but it’s not until another curious soul gets involved that the ball really starts turning。Again, with Lisa Jewell books this one was slower paced and mysterious rather than fast paced or page turning。 There’s always this uneasy feeling like you know something is amiss but you can’t quite put your finger on it。 I’ll also mention that none of the POVS are boring or dull, and I never find myself rushing to get ahead。 More LBGT representation in this book (bisexuality) and we love seeing that diversity。I do think it was a tad long (maybe since it was written during the pandemic!) and the middle is always the strongest, the beginning can be a bit much to jump into and the ending can drag a bit, but the good thing is that there are no plot holes, no “what happened to so and so” moments。 You know everything very clearly and it refreshing! 。。。more
