#1 New York Times bestselling author Liane Moriarty is back with a novel that looks at marriage, sibling rivalry, and the lies we tell others and ourselves。 Apples Never Fall is the work of a writer at the top of her game。

The Delaney family love one another dearly―it’s just that sometimes they want to murder each other 。 。 。

If your mother was missing, would you tell the police? Even if the most obvious suspect was your father?

This is the dilemma facing the four grown Delaney siblings。

The Delaney family is a communal foundation。 Stan and Joy are the envy of all of their friends。 They’re killer on the tennis court, and off it their chemistry is palpable。 But after fifty years of marriage, they’ve finally sold their famed tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives。 So why are they so miserable?

The four Delaney children―Amy, Logan, Troy, and Brooke―were tennis stars in their own right, yet as their father will tell you, none of them had what it took to go all the way。 But that’s okay, now that they’re all successful grown-ups。 Well, that depends on how you define success。 No one in the family can really tell you what Troy does, but based on his fancy car and expensive apartment, he seems to do it very well, even if he blew up his perfect marriage。 Logan is happy with his routine as a community college professor, but his family finds it easier to communicate with his lovely girlfriend than him。 Amy, the eldest, can’t seem to hold down a job or even a lease, but leave it to Brooke, the baby of the family, to be the rock-steady one who is married with a new solo physiotherapy practice 。 。 。 which will take off any day now。

One night a stranger named Savannah knocks on Stan and Joy’s door。 She says she chose their house because it looked the friendliest。 And since Savannah is bleeding after a fight with her boyfriend, the Delaneys are more than happy to give her the small kindness she sorely needs。 If only that was all she wanted。

Later, everyone will wonder what exactly went on in that household after Savannah entered their lives that night。 Because now Joy is missing, no one knows where Savannah is, and the Delaneys are reexamining their parents’ marriage and their shared family history with fresh, frightened eyes。

First let me start with Laine Moriarty is one of my favorite authors。 However, this book really dragged and was repetitive for the first half。 Unlike others, I found the narration hard to follow, there wasn’t a distinct difference in a couple of the characters and I found myself wondering who was speaking。 I believe this book would be better in print。 Slow burn, but ultimately a good story dealing with sibling rivalry。Thank you #NetGalley, #MacmillanAudio and #LianeMoriarty for the advance audio First let me start with Laine Moriarty is one of my favorite authors。 However, this book really dragged and was repetitive for the first half。 Unlike others, I found the narration hard to follow, there wasn’t a distinct difference in a couple of the characters and I found myself wondering who was speaking。 I believe this book would be better in print。 Slow burn, but ultimately a good story dealing with sibling rivalry。Thank you #NetGalley, #MacmillanAudio and #LianeMoriarty for the advance audiobook version for my honest review。 。。。more

4。5/5I just loved this book。 After loving BLL, the other two by her I read kind of missed the mark, but she's baaaack with this one! I would be absolutely shocked if they don't make this into a TV show。 Putting money on it now。 I was hooked from the very first page。 This was so engaging, so entertaining。 I finished it in the middle of the work day because I was just dying to know what happened。 4。5/5I just loved this book。 After loving BLL, the other two by her I read kind of missed the mark, but she's baaaack with this one! I’m sold。Joy just wants a grandchild from one of her four children now that she and her husband, Stan, have retired and sold their tennis business。 Instead, a woman named Savannah enters their life and drama ensues after bombs are dropped at a family meal。 Just a few months later, Joy goes missing on Valentine’s Day。 What happened and who is responsable? Two children think the Dad may be responsible and the other two think he has nothing to do with it。 Who is right? The twists did sometimes catch me off guard and as soon as I was caught off guard, there would be another narrator from either the past or the ‘now’。 I liked that the plot didn’t feel stale even though it didn’t cover much time。 I enjoyed the banter surrounding the family regarding each of them and their tennis careers (or lack thereof) plus the inclusion of changing family dynamics。 Moriarty got the gossip that happens on the tennis court spot on - and honestly I had to laugh because I could picture this exact banter at my tennis club。 Oh, and the ending? Well that caused my jaw to drop and a “What the hell?” to leave my mouth。 I even rewound my audiobook to make sure I was hearing the narrator correctly。 Also, here are some title ideas that make more sense because apples weren’t actually mentioned that much:Game, Set, Poor CommunicationMixed Doubles and Mixed SignalsConfusion Off the Court 。。。more

If you like an intelligently written novel full of mystery and suspense, then this is the one for you。 Joy and Stan Delaney reach retirement age, after running a highly successful tennis coaching school for decades, and suddenly find themselves plunged into unanticipated danger and distress when they generously open their home to a hurting yet helpful stranger。Savannah cooks and cleans like a dream and seamlessly inveigles her way into their home and family as if she’s been there for years。 Joy If you like an intelligently written novel full of mystery and suspense, then this is the one for you。 Joy and Stan Delaney reach retirement age, after running a highly successful tennis coaching school for decades, and suddenly find themselves plunged into unanticipated danger and distress when they generously open their home to a hurting yet helpful stranger。Savannah cooks and cleans like a dream and seamlessly inveigles her way into their home and family as if she’s been there for years。 Joy and Stan’s fiercely competitive adult children, who were all potential tennis champions, have their own personal struggles, so they don’t take too kindly to the stranger in their midst。They cannot fully trust she is who she says she is。 Because Savannah is a chameleon, prone to altering her persona and speech to suit who she is with。 Joy is deeply in her thrall and revels in her domestic skills, but her children’s suspicions eventually begin to gnaw at her peace of mind。And then Joy goes missing。 Her new bike is found abandoned yet she is nowhere in sight。 Happening just after a row with her husband, the subsequent police investigation seems to point the finger at him as the likeliest culprit in her mysterious disappearance and possible death。Their family swing from speculation to denial and doubt as to Stan’s innocence, taking it upon themselves to investigate Savannah’s background and the veracity of her claims。 She remains something of an enigma throughout even as her background issues eventually come to light。This engaging story, laced with wit and mounting tension, and told in parallel timelines, reveals a masterful grasp of plot。 Moriarty excels in keeping us guessing with many twists and turns。 What has happened to Joy? Who is responsible? Will she return? And if she does, can past secrets be forgiven and her relationship with her husband and family be restored? I loved it, including the unfinished proverbial saying in the title, which has significance in the book。 Grateful thanks to Michael Joseph/Penguin and NetGalley for the ARC。 。。。more

I love how Liane Moriarty develops her stories and characters。 I went from not really liking any of the characters to rooting for all of them。 I love how the smallest little details developed in to such a major part of the story。 The twists and turns were so good and I was sad when I finished this book。

I feel very lucky to have received the long-awaited new novel by Liane Moriarty to review from Netgalley。 Apples Never Fall is the story of the Delaney family – all former tennis stars in their own right。 In the past, the Delaneys owned and ran a successful tennis school – training numerous rising stars including superstar Harry Haddad。 The Delaney children are now all grown up and are living their own lives while their seemingly happily married parents are enjoying retirement。 One day, the moth I feel very lucky to have received the long-awaited new novel by Liane Moriarty to review from Netgalley。 Apples Never Fall is the story of the Delaney family – all former tennis stars in their own right。 In the past, the Delaneys owned and ran a successful tennis school – training numerous rising stars including superstar Harry Haddad。 The Delaney children are now all grown up and are living their own lives while their seemingly happily married parents are enjoying retirement。 One day, the mother (Joy) sends a cryptic text to her children, leaving her phone behind and with no further contact after a few days they begin to worry。 The children and community start to question Joy’s past and how happy Joy and Stan’s marriage is。 Is her disappearance related to a mysterious houseguest who appeared recently or is it much closer to home? The book cleverly changes between time periods and points of view and is easy to follow。 Liane Moriarty is brilliant at character development, and I felt like we got to know them all really well。 So much of the book is relatable to Australian family life。 The book touches on themes such as domestic violence, relationships, sibling rivalry and competitive tennis。 I enjoyed this book as I have with all Moriarty books。 She is a brilliant writer and I think we have come to expect a lot of her (so much pressure)。 I think the reference to Covid could have been left out – it didn’t particularly add any value – but maybe I am just tired of the word Covid! While this wasn’t my favourite of hers it’s worth the read。Thanks to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan Australia for the opportunity to read and review this book – released 14 September 2021。 。。。more

Unpopular opinion here。 I liked this but I didn’t love it。 This is a very character driven book and if that’s your style I think you’ll love this。 I felt like this could have been shorter and I wish that it would have focused more on the mystery aspect of the story。 With that being said, I did like getting to know all of the Delaney’s and reading about their family dynamic。 Apples Never Fall follows the Delaney’s who are a big tennis family。 Joy the mother goes missing and all signs point to the Unpopular opinion here。 I liked this but I didn’t love it。 This is a very character driven book and if that’s your style I think you’ll love this。 I felt like this could have been shorter and I wish that it would have focused more on the mystery aspect of the story。 With that being said, I did like getting to know all of the Delaney’s and reading about their family dynamic。 Apples Never Fall follows the Delaney’s who are a big tennis family。 Joy the mother goes missing and all signs point to the husband Stan as a suspect。The Delaney’s four adult children are dealing with not only their mothers disappearance, but the fact that their father could be involved。 On top of that, there is the mystery surrounding a strange house guest。 You are left wondering where did this houseguest come from, why is she here, and who exactly is Savannah。 Lines are crossed and relationships are strained, but I loved all the drama that came from it。 The Delaney’s are one messed up bunch。 It was sometimes hard to follow all the different POVs throughout this book。 We have the POV of so many different people and I would often find myself lost the first few minutes each time the narrator changed。 Also, a couple plot points didn’t really make sense to me, and the ending was one that I didn’t see coming but I’m not sure I’m a fan。 I will read more from this author, but this one was more of a miss for me。Special thanks to Goodreads, the author, and the publisher for allowing me to review this early。 I won this ARC in a Goodreads Giveaway。 。。。more

Apples Never Fall is a chewy family drama with a soft mystery centre, by arguably the current Queen of Contemporary Australian fiction, Liane Moriarty。 I’ve read most of her novels and loved almost all of them, and think this one was more enjoyable than last year’s Nine Perfect Strangers。 While it’s about a family obsessed with tennis, you don’t need to like or even know anything about the game to get into this。 You will however find yourself craving apple crumble! The Delaneys are a middle class Apples Never Fall is a chewy family drama with a soft mystery centre, by arguably the current Queen of Contemporary Australian fiction, Liane Moriarty。 I’ve read most of her novels and loved almost all of them, and think this one was more enjoyable than last year’s Nine Perfect Strangers。 While it’s about a family obsessed with tennis, you don’t need to like or even know anything about the game to get into this。 You will however find yourself craving apple crumble! The Delaneys are a middle class Sydney family, with four very different adult children, whose parents ran a successful tennis coaching business, but always rued “the one who got away” - superstar Grand Slam winner Harry Haddad。 Now Joy, the matriarch, is missing, and Head of the Family Stan can’t give the police a satisfactory explanation of what happened。How does Joy’s disappearance connect to a mysterious young house-guest months earlier? One of the things I like about Moriarty’s books is that while she does keep coming back to her “Now” and “Then” format, they are never formulaic, and we are drip-fed just enough information to keep going without feeling pointlessly kept in the dark。 She skilfully presents the story from the point of view of a whole range of minor characters, without it ever becoming confusing, so we usually don’t know what surly Stan, suave Troy, diffident Brooke, amiable Logan or skittish Amy are thinking。 They’re none of them particularly likeable but this truly didn’t matter, and they all had their good points。 Meanwhile we get to know poor grandchildless Joy, as she navigates the emptiness of post-retirement life after a long outwardly happy marriage to a man whose hopes never quite came to fruition, and so do actually care what has happened to her。 The central mystery of exactly who Savannah is and what she’s up to was very well done, I didn’t guess how things would play out at all。Thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for the ARC。 I am posting this honest review voluntarily。Apples Never Fall is available on September 14th。 。。。more

Liane is such an amazing writer。 I was sucked into the story right away。 I love how she uses side characters to tell the main characters’ story。 It’s a very twisty and interconnected story。 I liked the ending, and I felt like all the questions were answered。 This is a fairly long book and I was worried it would be too slow, but that’s not the case at all。 It was a fun ride。 I received an ARC of this book from a Goodreads giveaway。

Moriarty is back on her game! The last few books of hers felt like they were dramatic for the sake of drama, not the story or characters。 "Apples Never Fall" has a tighter story, better pacing, and just enough of a minor twist to satisfy。 Moriarty is back on her game! 3。5/4 stars。 This was a really good domestic thriller with a great twist, or even two。 While the first twist was quite unpredictable, the second one fell a bit short for me。 The book could have also been 7-8 chapters shorter - I feel like the final 10% of the book didn’t add anything interesting to the story。 It would have been interesting if it had been a literary thriller or literary fiction, but following on from the mystery of Joy Delaney, it felt obsolete。 Still, a really enjoyable book by 3。5/4 stars。 This was a really good domestic thriller with a great twist, or even two。 While the first twist was quite unpredictable, the second one fell a bit short for me。 The book could have also been 7-8 chapters shorter - I feel like the final 10% of the book didn’t add anything interesting to the story。 It would have been interesting if it had been a literary thriller or literary fiction, but following on from the mystery of Joy Delaney, it felt obsolete。 Still, a really enjoyable book by Liane! 。。。more

Wow! There were so many twists and turns that my vertigo kicked in。 Liane Moriarty has the greatest gift giving just a morsel of a clue to the answers the reader is searching for within her work。 She is ingenious in being able to keep the readers in suspense until the end。 It is remarkable and noteworthy, so say the least。I highly recommend this novel。 It encompasses every feeling you can think of and brings it all, or mostly all, to a point of tranquility。 No spoilers here!

The author does an amazing job with character details and for me this is what made the book。

A new book from Liane Moriarty and while I didn't love it quite as much as The Husband's Secret or Big Little Lies, I'd rate it higher than anything else she's written。 It has everything you hope for in a Liane Moriarty novel: lots of interesting characters, lots of secrets, not just one but TWO intriguing mysteries and a dash of humour as well。 I devoured this in under 24 hours and now all I can do is wait for her to write another one please。The book is centered on a family。 Stan and Jo Hooray! Stan has unusual scratches on his face and admits they argued before Joy vanished。 However there's one other odd piece to the puzzle。 Six months earlier, a strange woman turned up on their doorstep and was taken in by Stan and Joy。 Who was she and is that connected to Joy's disappearance or nothing to do with it?It's these two mysteries that keep you turning the pages but along the way we get to know all of the Delaney family and start to share Joy's hopes that the children will sort out their issues。 And it's that combination of compelling mystery and endearing characters that is Liane Moriarty's magic。My only real criticism is that the ending is a bit too stretched out - you think things are wrapped up but it keeps going - although there is a kink in the tail which made me gasp。Thank you to Net Galley and Pan MacMillan Australia for an ARC。 。。。more
