Summary

A woman struggling with burnout learns to embrace the unexpected—and the man she enlists to help her—in this heartfelt new romance by USA Today bestselling author Helen Hoang。

When violinist Anna Sun accidentally achieves career success with a viral YouTube video, she finds herself incapacitated and burned out from her attempts to replicate that moment。 And when her longtime boyfriend announces he wants an open relationship before making a final commitment, a hurt and angry Anna decides that if he wants an open relationship, then she does, too。 Translation: She's going to embark on a string of one-night stands。 The more unacceptable the men, the better。

That’s where tattooed, motorcycle-riding Quan Diep comes in。 Their first attempt at a one-night stand fails, as does their second, and their third, because being with Quan is more than sex—he accepts Anna on an unconditional level that she has just started to understand herself。 However, when tragedy strikes Anna’s family she takes on a role that she is ill-suited for, until the burden of expectations threatens to destroy her。 Anna and Quan have to fight for their chance at love, but to do that, they also have to fight for themselves。

It was a good book but。。。I wanted to see more of Quan and his character development。 It felt rushed towards the ending and the relationship between Quan and Anna。

i have very conflicting feelings about this book and simply rating won't sum up my feelings。to start, when i finished this book i felt。。。 angry。 angry for anna, angry for quan, and then angry that no one properly warned me what this book was all about。 i read reviews and i certainly got the feeling that this wasn't going to be a romcom but i didn't expect to come away from this reading experience, frankly, traumatized。reading that back, it's sounding a little melodramatic and maybe i'm just the i have very conflicting feelings about this book and simply rating won't sum up my feelings。to start, when i finished this book i felt。。。 angry。 angry for anna, angry for quan, and then angry that no one properly warned me what this book was all about。 i read reviews and i certainly got the feeling that this wasn't going to be a romcom but i didn't expect to come away from this reading experience, frankly, traumatized。reading that back, it's sounding a little melodramatic and maybe i'm just the most sensitive bitch on the planet but i have a bitter taste in my mouth after finishing。 anyway lemme try and explain:i would say about 70% of this story is sad。 anna is tasked with caregiving for a sick relative which i found traumatizing to read about。 she's gaslighted continuously by friends and family。 she's in a really horrible mental state before all of this happens and it just gets worse as the story goes on。 quan is feeling self conscious and sad after his cancer treatment and surgery。 he fights for anna who is in no place to give him the love that he needs。and the other 30% is a romance, sort of。 early on in the book i had so much appreciation for quan's patience and all of the sweet scenes between him and anna。 but as the book carried on, the romance had to take a back seat to the life stuff and as a result we get two people clinging to each other for imo unexplainable reasons。to be clear: i did not hate this book。 i will forever be in love with helen hoang's focus and attention on autism representation。 i was rooting for these characters! and overall the book elicited an emotional reaction a few times which must mean something right? i don't cry over just anything。 but when i look at this book as a romance, and especially as one of my most anticipated of the year i can't say that this is going to be a favorite。 。。。more

Wow! The author does it again! The first novel in this series, The Kiss Quotient really got me hooked on the romance genre。 Before bookstagram, I didn’t read very many romance novels at all。 I clearly remember everyone raving about The Kiss Quotient when it was first released, so I decided to give it a try。 I obviously loved it, and have been a big fan of contemporary romance ever since。 So thank you, Helen Hoang and Bookstagram for making me a romance reader! Hoang writes with so much grit, heart, and soul。 She expertly brings her characters to life by tackling heavy topics, real life issues, and flawlessly incorporating an intense love story at the same time。 You can’t help but care for the characters she creates, wish, and hope that they’ll be okay in their situations。 It’s so easy to form connections with them。 In The Heart Principle, Anna is diagnosed with autism late in life。 She’s spent years bending over backwards to please her family, and feeling pressured by their high expectations of what they believe her life should look like。 Her boyfriend wants to take a break in order to see other people, then her father becomes ill, and requires constant care from the family。 Anna’s stress levels are extremely high, and she’s struggling with everything the universe has thrown in her direction at the moment。 Enter Quan。 Buff, sensitive, understanding, and deliciously tattooed。 Their connection is strong, instant, and grows with intensity as he selflessly supports Anna through it all。 GAH! I love this couple SO much, and I know you will too。 The Kiss Quotient is still my very favorite in the series, but The Heart Principle definitely has a big chunk of my heart, and will stick with me for a long time。 4。5/5 steamy and emotional stars for Helen Hoang’s latest! 。。。more

This is my first read of the series and it wasn't what I was expecting。 I expected more of a light hearted romance, but this book surprisingly showed depth and emotion of the main characters。 Anna is diagnosed with autism as an adult and Quan is coming off of surgery and some health issues when they meet for a one night stand。 They were never meant to be。Tld in alternating points of view, this book has depth of characters and exploration of deep issues。 I mostly read thrillers and don’t usually This is my first read of the series and it wasn't what I was expecting。 I expected more of a light hearted romance, but this book surprisingly showed depth and emotion of the main characters。 Anna is diagnosed with autism as an adult and Quan is coming off of surgery and some health issues when they meet for a one night stand。 They were never meant to be。Tld in alternating points of view, this book has depth of characters and exploration of deep issues。 I mostly read thrillers and don’t usually connect and empathize with the characters, but you can’t help but be drawn into this story。 It’s told in the first person and you get to feel all the ups and downs, highs and lows as Anna and Quan navigate through their relationship and life。 Anna is struggling to figure out who she is if she isn’t pleasing others and the author writes in such a way that you are immersed in all of her feelings of inadequacy, grief, loneliness and pressure。 Quan is a sensitive young man covered in tattoos so you see his pain when he is judged in addition to his feelings of inadequacy related to his surgery。 And with any relationship there is the vulnerability of opening up to another human being。 Hoang is masterful at revealing all of those emotions without making the characters seem needy or unlikable。 This is the hardest I’ve rooted for a fictional couple in a very long time。Brian Nishii and Natalie Naudus are the audiobook narrators。 They do a fabulous job of capturing the emotion of Anna and Quan。 If you are looking for a book to make you jump right in and feel along with the characters, then this is your book。 It really is so much more than a romance。 。。。more

Because surely the lackluster scenes they had could not be it and did not lead to love? But alas, it wasn't that。 Also; the plot for the second part just bored me to death even more, not to mention how enraged Anna's sister made me。。。ANYWAY。 All in all, this was not at all what I expected and now I'm starting that maybe The Kiss Quotient was the exception, not the rule。 。。。more

This was nothing short of an amazing read and I enjoyed it from beginning to end。 Anna and Quan was magical and this was definitely unexpected。 This surpasses all my expectations that I thought this book would offer。 It was raw, real and relatable in ways that I can’t even explain。 Hoang has definitely delivered us another masterpiece and I’m excited about what’s next。

I love Helen Hoang and I thoroughly enjoyed this book。 I blew through this, finished it in a day。 This is the third book in the Kiss Quotient series, but I don't feel like you had to read the first two to enjoy this。 Though I liked both of those too! I really felt like Anna and Quan progressed realistically。 I really like that Hoang deep dives into anxiety, autism, depression and hard things。 While this is a romance and had lighter moments, it is also much heavier than your typical HEA book。 You I love Helen Hoang and I thoroughly enjoyed this book。 I blew through this, finished it in a day。 This is the third book in the Kiss Quotient series, but I don't feel like you had to read the first two to enjoy this。 Though I liked both of those too! before i dive into this review hard trigger warning for abuse and manipulation (from family and also romantic/sexual) and caregiving/burden of caring for someone。 And honestly trigger warning for decline of mental health, because both of the mc's go to very dark places and it was so upsetting to read。i feel like i'm giving this a solid 5 stars because of my love for anna, one of our mc's。 she felt, to me, like the most real of the fmc's from this series yet。 i felt for her SO much。 she had my he before i dive into this review hard trigger warning for abuse and manipulation (from family and also romantic/sexual) and caregiving/burden of caring for someone。 And honestly trigger warning for decline of mental health, because both of the mc's go to very dark places and it was so upsetting to read。i feel like i'm giving this a solid 5 stars because of my love for anna, one of our mc's。 she felt, to me, like the most real of the fmc's from this series yet。 i felt for her SO much。 she had my heart from the first chapter。i think the biggest critique i could give this book is that i wanted WAY more from quan。 i have loved him as a side character since book one and i was WAITING for his story of romance。 but i definitely felt that anna's story had more emotinoal-weight to it than quan's。 her's was given more time。 and while WE STILL LOVE QUAN i do wish we had of seen more from him。in general i always kind of feel like helen hoang does a really good job at getting us into these charaters lives, she always gets me invested in the meet cute and the first 50% of the romance, but her endings almost always feel a little bit rushed, and that's the same with this one。 I would have loved to have seen more anna/quan moments at the end, but i loved their romance enough to still give this 5 stars。 i fully burst into tears reading that epilogue。 if anyone deserves a HEA, it's these two :,) 。。。more

my mind is scattered so this review might be chaotic。 where do i even start? i went in this book thinking i'll get a cute light romance。 i was wrong。 this was heavy and less of romance。 it is more on the story and arc of the two characters。 both quan and anna struggle to love themselves but for different reasons。 they both push themselves to be validated。 and throughout the book, we see them loving each other as they love themselves。 it was so beautifully and painfully done。 just remembering rig my mind is scattered so this review might be chaotic。 where do i even start? i went in this book thinking i'll get a cute light romance。 i was wrong。 this was heavy and less of romance。 it is more on the story and arc of the two characters。 both quan and anna struggle to love themselves but for different reasons。 they both push themselves to be validated。 and throughout the book, we see them loving each other as they love themselves。 it was so beautifully and painfully done。 just remembering right now what they went through has me crying。 especially anna。 for years, she had put everyone above her。 when she finally chose herself, i was utterly proud of her。 helen hoang put her mind and soul into this book。 it is completely captivating and excellent。 this is her best work yet。 。。。more
