I had a bit of bumpy start with this one due to time hopping and remembering to keep an eye out if it was Hollie or Jake's chapter。 When this settled, the book really takes shape and becomes ever so Christmas log sickly sweet。This doesn't shy away from grief and heartache, how it impacts people in different ways, and trying to live with grief。 Will more than resonate if you've lost a loved one。Hollie's and Jake's relationship is brought closer through Mr Pickles (I won't provide his full name)。 I had a bit of bumpy start with this one due to time hopping and remembering to keep an eye out if it was Hollie or Jake's chapter。 When this settled, the book really takes shape and becomes ever so Christmas log sickly sweet。This doesn't shy away from grief and heartache, how it impacts people in different ways, and trying to live with grief。 Will more than resonate if you've lost a loved one。Hollie's and Jake's relationship is brought closer through Mr Pickles (I won't provide his full name)。 It's great to see this relationship develop and also how honest they are with each other。 I'm not sure I'll look at a Rubik's cube in the same way again。I also like the creativity with the characters。 Lots packed in as the backstory gets revealed。 A celebration of love, a thought to loss, and buckets of hope。Joyous。 。。。more

Time to return to the beautiful Whitsborough Bay once again。 Hollie runs The Starfish Cafe 。 Hollie is overcome with grief from a number of family tragedies。 Jake lives with his Nana。 Both have broken hearts that need to be healed。Bonfire night holds lots of memories for Hollie and a chance meeting with Jake happens on that night。 Are things about to change for the both of them?I loved getting to know Hollie and Jake and watching their story unfold together。🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is the first book by Jessica Redland that I have read。 I have read and heard so many positive comments and reviews about her books that I really wanted to read one。 This book combines my love of Festive books and books set by the Sea, so for me it was the perfect book to start with。 This book is set in Whitsborough Bay, which I believe is the location of several of the Author's previous books。 This book is a standalone novel and the first in a new series。 Although I had not read any of the This is the first book by Jessica Redland that I have read。 I have read and heard so many positive comments and reviews about her books that I really wanted to read one。 This book combines my love of Festive books and books set by the Sea, so for me it was the perfect book to start with。 This book is set in Whitsborough Bay, which I believe is the location of several of the Author's previous books。 This book is a standalone novel and the first in a new series。 Although I had not read any of the previous books in this location it didn't matter。 I would very much like to read the previous books though。 I enjoyed this book immensely, I loved the characters a lot。 It was well written and easy to follow, despite each chapter alternating between being narrated by either Hollie or Jake。 The chapters moved backwards and forward to between the past and the present。 It was clear who was narrating each chapter, and the writing moves effortlessly between them。 This book is very sad and emotional in many places and deals with death and grief。 It also has one of the most heinous and abhorrent villains that I have come across for a while。 Larissa is truly shocking。 There are also a lot of heartwarming moments and gentle romance。 I really enjoyed reading this book。 I can't understand why I have not read any of Jessica Redland's books before。 I can tell that my to-be-read pule of books is going to get even bigger as I really want to read more of her books。 I can't wait for the next book in the series。 Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for my ARC。 。。。more

For Hollie, at the Starfish Café, Christmas has always started on bonfire night – it’s the night when she and her mother always hosted a party to watch the fireworks across the bay, and when they put up the Christmas decorations amid much joy and laughter。 Those happy times are now gone and Hollie is alone, trying to keep the traditions alive in her mother’s memory, dreading the approach of the festive season she always so loved。 But then she meets Jake – on a wet and windy night, he’s found an For Hollie, at the Starfish Café, Christmas has always started on bonfire night – it’s the night when she and her mother always hosted a party to watch the fireworks across the bay, and when they put up the Christmas decorations amid much joy and laughter。 Those happy times are now gone and Hollie is alone, trying to keep the traditions alive in her mother’s memory, dreading the approach of the festive season she always so loved。 But then she meets Jake – on a wet and windy night, he’s found an abandoned dog while taking photographs on the beach below, and needs her help。 The spark between them is instant, and their connection grows – but Jake, also alone, has his own reasons for dreading the approach of Christmas, and his bravery in facing up to the tragedy in his life has the potential to make a happy future for them both quite impossible。My goodness, this is an emotional one! The sadness in the lives of both these two lovely people is almost too much to bear – but the depths of emotion and despair are beautifully balanced by the joy they find in each other, as they share the care of the characterful Mr Pickles and slowly open up to each other about the past events that have shaped them。 Their viewpoints loosely alternate, with glimpses of their past lives, the happy moments that fill your heart and the immensely sad ones that make you angry that two young people can have gone through so much sadness and heartache。 The relationship that develops between them is beautiful – until Hollie discovers Jake’s Monday night secret, and knows it means that they can never be together。If that all looks immensely sad, it really is – but there’s also a lot of lightness and humour, the joy of finding a special person, the shared laughter, the moments of quiet togetherness。 I really enjoyed the small details – the supportive friendships (Angie and the visiting customers at the café, Jake’s with his elderly next-door neighbour), Jake’s passion for photography, Hollie’s work with driftwood and seaglass collected on early morning forays to the beach。 And then there was the fragmented rubik’s cube, slowly put back together – beautifully done – and the cards left by Hollie’s mother encouraging her to always dance in the rain。At times, this book really will break your heart – there’s a lot of grief and loss, and a sense of future happiness being quite impossible。 But it’s also a book filled with the warmth of friendship and family, the need for bravery to give happiness the chance, the hope of a brighter future, all wrapped up in the warm hug that the author’s books unfailingly provide。I thought it was quite wonderful – I really loved it, and recommend it really highly。 。。。more

It's a moving story with great characters, including an adorable shih tzu named Mr。 Pickles that inadvertently brings together two grieving and lonely thirty-something residents of small Whitsborough Bay。Jessica Redland really writes wonderful characters who've coped with hard times。 Cafe owner Hollie and nurse Jake have both suffered great loss and yet they're not bitter or selfish; they seem to embrace the positive and serve others even while they hide their grief。 They are both lovely, complex characters and it was easy to get wrapped up in their romance。It's ironic that Hollie, from a Christmas-crazy family, finds the season so depressing and traumatic。 The story is told by alternating past years with the present to reveal bit by bit why Hollie so dislikes the Christmas season and why Jake can't let go of the tragic events that took his family。An excellent, sweet romance with all the feels and a lovely cast of supporting characters, sprinkled with a few bad eggs like Jake's obsessed sister and Hollie's erstwhile fiance Craig。 I've been reading the author's romances for a few years now and never met one I did not like。 Still, this is, IMO, one of her better ones。Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion。 。。。more

I thought that this was a cute little Christmas story。 I enjoyed seeing how the main characters Hollie and Jake overcome their fears and fall in love。 They have been through some pretty tragic events in their lives and it was good to see them heal completely。 I also enjoyed all the side characters。 I loved how Pickles the cute little dog became such a connection to Hollie and Jake! I loved the alternative chapters from both Hollie's and Jake's point of view which gave details of both of their tragic pasts and how they see their future lives。 As with every book of Jessica's that I've read I was moved to tears, of sadness and happiness and was sad to leave these characters behind as the book came to an end。 However, the good news, revealed by the author at the end, was that there is to be a sequel!!! I am so looking forward to that。 For a gentle, Christmassy, romantic and beautifully written book look no further than this (and hopefully the follow up)。 My thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood books for a pre-release copy of this book in exchange for my review。 。。。more

A lot more than a Christmas themed book, Snowflakes Over The Starfish Cafe is a story about how to overcome one's grief and fears and give the future a chance, how to "keep dancing in the rain"。 This book is both sad and happy。 Heart wrenching and heartwarming at the same time。 Jessica Redland's writing is beautiful, it flows easily and the two POV narration is mastered sublimely and you really feel inside Hollie and Jake's minds, and almost feel what they feel。I loved this book immensely, but w A lot more than a Christmas themed book, Snowflakes Over The Starfish Cafe is a story about how to overcome one's grief and fears and give the future a chance, how to "keep dancing in the rain"。 This book is both sad and happy。 Heart wrenching and heartwarming at the same time。 Jessica Redland's writing is beautiful, it flows easily and the two POV narration is mastered sublimely and you really feel inside Hollie and Jake's minds, and almost feel what they feel。I loved this book immensely, but when I thought a couldn't love it more, I got to the the author's note and discovered there will be a sequel! Was it too soon? Did it make sense (to me)?All in all, I really loved the premise and idea of “Snowflakes over the Starfish Café” but personally left this book empty-handed。 Is it a touching love story? Yes。 Mostly depends on the reader。 Would I recommend this to romance lovers? Yes。 Absolutely。 It’s only after one can read that they can judge a book。 I would totally recommend this book to a friend, or a romance nerd that was looking for a cute romance holiday read。 And hey!! Just because it wasn’t MY cup of tea, does not mean it won’t be YOURS! After all, that is what makes us interesting; we do not always like the same things! And if we did, wouldn’t the world be rather boring?🤗[2。5/⭐️] 。。。more

Hollie hasn't let love into her life since being badly let down after a tragedy。 Her focus is the gorgeous Starfish cafe she inherited。 But then Jake comes into her life, with a challenging past of his own。Can they each overcome the past, and embrace the future they both deserve? This read is another smasher from Redland, I just loved the characters and setting。 As warm as a comforting hot chocolate, this is the ideal read to get you in the mood for Christmas。 There were twists and turns along th Hollie hasn't let love into her life since being badly let down after a tragedy。 Her focus is the gorgeous Starfish cafe she inherited。 But then Jake comes into her life, with a challenging past of his own。Can they each overcome the past, and embrace the future they both deserve? This read is another smasher from Redland, I just loved the characters and setting。 As warm as a comforting hot chocolate, this is the ideal read to get you in the mood for Christmas。 There were twists and turns along the way that I wasn't expecting and the ending was totally unexpected - and totally perfect。 Highly recommended! 。。。more

I love a good holiday read, and Snowflakes Over the Starfish Cafe didn’t disappoint。 Hollie and Jake run into each other after Jake finds a lost dog on the beach near the cafe that Hollie owns。 Both have experienced tragedy in their lives and are trying to work through their grief and loneliness in order to move on with their lives。 I really enjoyed how thoroughly the author delves into each character’s story。 It’s told from both points of view, and you get the feeling of knowing who they are be I love a good holiday read, and Snowflakes Over the Starfish Cafe didn’t disappoint。 Hollie and Jake run into each other after Jake finds a lost dog on the beach near the cafe that Hollie owns。 Both have experienced tragedy in their lives and are trying to work through their grief and loneliness in order to move on with their lives。 I really enjoyed how thoroughly the author delves into each character’s story。 It’s told from both points of view, and you get the feeling of knowing who they are before they meet。 The only drawback to this is that it doesn’t move the story along very quickly, and some parts seem to drag。 The feelings of love and loss really shine through and it ends up being an uplifting contemporary romance。 3。5 ⭐️ Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy to read and review。 。。。more
