While the novels about Blandings castle and its potty, as the Duke of Dunstable puts it, or, more benevolently put, eccentric inhabitants never entertained me quite the way Bertie Wooster and his antics do, I did thoroughly enjoy this collection of Blandings stories, lovingly narrated by Stephen Fry (whose love for the author and his works, in fact, got me started on Wodehouse)。 This collection contains:Summer Lightning ~ 3 stars for the storyHeavy Weather ~ 3 stars for the storyBlandings Castle While the novels about Blandings castle and its potty, as the Duke of Dunstable puts it, or, more benevolently put, eccentric inhabitants never entertained me quite the way Bertie Wooster and his antics do, I did thoroughly enjoy this collection of Blandings stories, lovingly narrated by Stephen Fry (whose love for the author and his works, in fact, got me started on Wodehouse)。 This collection contains:Summer Lightning ~ 3 stars for the storyHeavy Weather ~ 3 stars for the storyBlandings Castle and Elsewhere ~ 3 stars for the storiesLord Emsworth and Others ~ 3 stars for the storiesUncle Fred in the Spring Time ~ all the stars in the world for the storyLuckily for me, this last one happens to me my favorite Wodehouse book (so far), and one of my all-time favorite books, so I will always return to this collection for it alone。 The narration did more than make up for the stories I enjoyed less than others, and all in all 45 and a half hours well spent! 。。。more

I wasn't familiar with these the way I was with Jeeves。 the last story has blackface and there are other instances of dated racist language。 overall it made good enough background I wasn't familiar with these the way I was with Jeeves。 the last story has blackface and there are other instances of dated racist language。 overall it made good enough background 。。。more

Stephen Fry is the perfect narrator for P。G。 Wodehouse。 The characters, similar to those in the Jeeves and Wooster collection, are of their time and, I admit some of the situations made me wince a little, BUT The Empress of Blandings has to be one of the best, (non-speaking) characters in literature。 I laughed out loud at the nonsense and chaos that wove about her as she remained serene。 Loved it!
