Very informative but fails to be straight to the point。

It's dated。 It's from before 2010 so all Affordable Care Act legislation isn't added。 However, the authors sum up a lot of information well, as well as go into detail about specifics。 Not the best of text books, but was much easier to read than others。 I would use this in a class if the authors had a new revised version including ACA information。 It's dated。 It's from before 2010 so all Affordable Care Act legislation isn't added。 However, the authors sum up a lot of information well, as well as go into detail about specifics。 Not the best of text books, but was much easier to read than others。 I would use this in a class if the authors had a new revised version including ACA information。 。。。more

This was used as the primary textbook for a course in the Operational Models of Healthcare at the University of Texas。 All told。。。 a good walk-through of the healthcare system in the USA。 It was very insightful to match my experience as a consumer of healthcare with the all the complexities of the industry which accounts for nearly 20% of US GDP。 The book does a good job to highlight all the current and future challenges of healthcare cost, quality, and access。On the negative side。。。 it was extr This was used as the primary textbook for a course in the Operational Models of Healthcare at the University of Texas。 All told。。。 a good walk-through of the healthcare system in the USA。 It was very insightful to match my experience as a consumer of healthcare with the all the complexities of the industry which accounts for nearly 20% of US GDP。 The book does a good job to highlight all the current and future challenges of healthcare cost, quality, and access。On the negative side。。。 it was extremely repetitive。 The same concepts were drilled over and over。 The page count could easily be reduced from 650ish to 400ish。 The authors also presented a very nationalistic healthcare solutions approach, constantly comparing US to other developed countries in Europe (w/o highlighting the difficulties those national programs also face)。 I would have liked to see various alternatives presented - less hidden politics。I learned a bunch so had to keeping it at 3 star rating。 。。。more

Out of date。 Slanted toward a single payer system。 Flawed logic in many cases。 Not interested in both sides of the story。 It's a shame I had to read this for school。 Out of date。 Slanted toward a single payer system。 Flawed logic in many cases。 Not interested in both sides of the story。 It's a shame I had to read this for school。 。。。more

This might be the only textbook I've read from cover to cover EVER in my entire undergraduate and graduate studies。 There is nothing ground breaking or awe inspiring about this book, but it is quite impressive to take something as complicated as health care。。。especially in the United States, and provide a historical context, a working knowledge base, and even suggestions for the future all in one sitting。 I wish I could rate 3 1/2 stars。 This might be the only textbook I've read from cover to cover EVER in my entire undergraduate and graduate studies。 There is nothing ground breaking or awe inspiring about this book, but it is quite impressive to take something as complicated as health care。。。especially in the United States, and provide a historical context, a working knowledge base, and even suggestions for the future all in one sitting。 I wish I could rate 3 1/2 stars。 。。。more
