Summary

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Reckoners series, Words of Radiance, the Mistborn trilogy, and the Stormlight Archive comes the second book in an epic series about a girl with a secret in a dangerous world at war for humanity's future。

All her life, Spensa has dreamed of becoming a pilot。 Of proving she's a hero like her father。 She made it to the sky, but the truths she learned about her father were crushing。 The rumors of his cowardice are true--he deserted his flight during battle against the Krell。 Worse, though, he turned against his team and attacked them。

Spensa is sure there's more to the story。 And she's sure that whatever happened to her father in his starship could happen to her。 When she made it outside the protective shell of her planet, she heard the stars--and it was terrifying。 Everything Spensa has been taught about her world is a lie。

But Spensa also discovered a few other things about herself--and she'll travel to the end of the galaxy to save humankind if she needs to。

I personally did not enjoy this novel as much as I loved the first。 Partially because it hit me in a reading slump (and an acceleration of, you know, my job) and partially because it was a lot more traditional sci-fi than its predecessor。Like, the plot was interesting and kept me on my toes, and I did enjoy the characters introduced (particularly the not-king gerbil)。 But ultimately I missed the humans。 Maybe that makes me xenophobic towards aliens。 Hopefully I'll be dead before that time comes。 I personally did not enjoy this novel as much as I loved the first。 Partially because it hit me in a reading slump (and an acceleration of, you know, my job) and partially because it was a lot more traditional sci-fi than its predecessor。Like, the plot was interesting and kept me on my toes, and I did enjoy the characters introduced (particularly the not-king gerbil)。 But ultimately I missed the humans。 Maybe that makes me xenophobic towards aliens。 Hopefully I'll be dead before that time comes。(Geez, this review is a mess。 Pretty much: it's not you it's me。) 。。。more

So glad I waited to read the 2nd installment until the 3rd publish date is 3 months away because I have ZERO chill!! Scud, what a ride! Sanderson proves expert in his world building and characters, making you invested。 I did miss having certain characters with us in the story, but enjoyed the new additions。 Also, the M-bot sass is back and still awesome! 🙂

Enjoyed this book so much! From the world building to the characters to the pacing it delivered for me。 I enjoyed the little bits from other characters as well。 This book ended up being quite political, but it didn't lack action。 It was nice to see character growth from Spensa, and even in some of the side characters。 Brandon Sanderson managed to make me care about the characters so much, which was the same in the Final Empire trilogy。 While it was sci-fi, it didn't get heavy handed with science Enjoyed this book so much! What a lovely, lovely book。 So much adventure, drama, suspense, intriguing politics, and delicious plot twists。 I felt like I was running a race with Spensa as I read this book。 I just wish the ending wasn't such a cruel cliffhanger。 I really recommend reading this only if you can stand the wait。There's so much to discover and explore in this universe。 And the characters are all so lovable despite their flaws。 That's what I loved about the book。 What a lovely, lovely book。 So much adventure, drama, suspense, intriguing politics, and delicious plot twists。 I felt like I was running a race with Spensa as I read this book。 I just wish the ending wasn't such a cruel cliffhanger。 I really recommend reading this only if you can stand the wait。There's so much to discover and explore in this universe。 And the characters are all so lovable despite their flaws。 That's what I loved about the book。 。。。more

maybe 3。5? I'll have to sit with this one for a bit。this was in many ways better than Skyward and others not as much。 the middle of this book was so god damn slow。 it took everything that was fantastic about skyward and slightly squashed it to start over on top of it。 even though the events of skyward and the start of this book lead to this whole thing that happened in the middle (trying not to spoil it lol), it felt 2d to me somehow。 i can tell that I'm in the minority here so that's nice。 mayb maybe 3。5? Trying to read a fantastic sci-fi fantasy epic while on a summer mission is a little challenging to say the least。。。I know, I know, I started this two months ago, it looks bad but what can I say? Here's a pro tip -- if someone looks really invested in a book, small talk while they're reading isn't going to make their reading experience any better。 I kid, I kid of course but in review, I can answer honestly I don't know whether or not the meat of Starsight was actually good as I was only able to read brief bite-sized pieces throughout this summer due to my mission's very busy schedule。 So busy when I opened up a piece from Sanderson's escapism masterpiece I'd find myself too overwhelmed by ordinary life to even read further from unordinary life。 I know -- crazy, right? I can definitely say though that this book makes for a fantastic airport read -- you know those books。 I found a similar situation with Lisa Maxwell's Last Magician which I started on a flight back to the United States from Peru and finished the day after a road trip in Minnesota visiting relatives。 Both excellent novels although I will admit the Last Magician I did read through mostly in one sitting so the memory of it remains more cohesive than Starsight, (my memory of Starsight not being cohesive mostly my fault of course。。。 I regret nothing)。 However, when I finally found myself back at home this past week I made it my personal mission ( ;) ) to finish the book so I can finally know what happens and move on to others。 I can say for certain the last quarter of the book really knocked this one out of the ballpark while I still stand uncertain completely on the meat of the book, this was truly enjoyable this much I know from what I can remember。 The author is clearly a force to be reckoned with and as always I remain impressed after reading this fantastic sequel。 I'm looking forward to seeing what other phenomenal unexpected twists Sanderson has up his sleeve, and for now keep your gaze Skyward! Callsign Rain signing off! :) As always, thanks for reading! 。。。more

Este segundo libro cambia completamente al anterior。 La protagonista se va a estudiar a una academia de pilotos del enemigo, disfrazandose de otra especie。 La verdad es que no me he creído nada de la historia y además ha sido mucho más aburrido que el anterior。 C+

I liked it but not as much as the first novel。 "Skyward" was a war novel with Battlestar Galactica vibes that I could imagine happening in the Expanse universe。 This one is a spy and thriller novel with a Farscape meets Dr Who mix that borders indigestion。 And indeed as several reviewers already noted we miss some characters from the first novel。 I'm curious and looking forward for the next novel but with more reservation than I anticipated this second installment。 Oh, and didn't like the ending I liked it but not as much as the first novel。 "Skyward" was a war novel with Battlestar Galactica vibes that I could imagine happening in the Expanse universe。 This one is a spy and thriller novel with a Farscape meets Dr Who mix that borders indigestion。 And indeed as several reviewers already noted we miss some characters from the first novel。 I'm curious and looking forward for the next novel but with more reservation than I anticipated this second installment。 Oh, and didn't like the ending of this one。。。。 。。。more

The story starts with a spur of the moment mission, with a ridiculously sparse plan and not a clue where they going or how to return, it felt like the story was sliding into the realms of fantasy。 Then there are the ‘delvers’, I couldn’t believe the author came up with this rubbish。 Maybe I have read too many old school SciFi novels, but I really didn’t find this one very convincing。 I’m afraid I didn’t understand where the author was taking this story, great chunks of the book alternated betwee The story starts with a spur of the moment mission, with a ridiculously sparse plan and not a clue where they going or how to return, it felt like the story was sliding into the realms of fantasy。 Then there are the ‘delvers’, I couldn’t believe the author came up with this rubbish。 Maybe I have read too many old school SciFi novels, but I really didn’t find this one very convincing。 I’m afraid I didn’t understand where the author was taking this story, great chunks of the book alternated between being boring and just ridiculous。 Unlike the first book I just didn’t like the majority of this story。 I first came across Brandon Sandersons when he completed Robert Jordan’s Epic ‘Wheel of Time’ and was impressed with the way he pulled this together, perhaps he should stick to writing Fantasies。 Given how much I liked the first book, this one was very disappointing。 If possible I would have given 1。5 stars。 。。。more

Great choice by Brandon Sanderson to place the majority of this book in a totally new location。 We meet new races, new characters, new flight mates, and they are all interesting and compelling。 We learn more about the greater world, as well as more about Detritus。 I love Spensa because she constantly doubts herself but pushes forward。 She has a faith in the people she gets to know that, while not always justified, is always admirable。 I look forward to the next installment。
