Summary

The USA Today bestselling author of When We Believed in Mermaids returns with a tale of two generations of women reconciling family secrets and past regrets。

Life’s beautiful for seventysomething influencer Gloria Rose, in her Upper West Side loft with rooftop garden and scores of Instagram followers—until she gets word that her old flame has been arrested for art theft and forgery。 Knowing her own involvement in his misdeeds decades earlier, Gloria realizes she could be the next arrest and must flee。 But first, she needs to make sure her nieces are protected from any fallout。

The sisters, though in their thirties, are still constantly at odds with each other。 Willow, struggling to live up to their mother’s fame as a singer-songwriter, is recovering from a failed album and yet another heartbreak, while Sam is desperate to revive her floundering video game company。

When circumstances out of their control bring the three women back together, they will each have to reckon with and reconcile their interwoven traumas, past loves, and the looming consequences that could either destroy their futures or bring them closer than ever。

It's not often that I lose myself in a book like I did with Write My Name Across the Sky。 The story combined just the right amount of family drama, suspense and emotion for my tastes。 The use of alternating voices made me feel like I was right there in New York City observing and rooting for sisters Willow and Sam and Aunt Gloria who had pretty much raised them after their mother's death。 Gloria brought to mind my own cousin who had also made airline stewardess her lifelong career。 Thanks so muc It's not often that I lose myself in a book like I did with Write My Name Across the Sky。 The story combined just the right amount of family drama, suspense and emotion for my tastes。 The use of alternating voices made me feel like I was right there in New York City observing and rooting for sisters Willow and Sam and Aunt Gloria who had pretty much raised them after their mother's death。 Gloria brought to mind my own cousin who had also made airline stewardess her lifelong career。 Thanks so much to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the opportunity to read and review Barbara O'Neal's latest novel。 I look forward to reading many more! 。。。more

This story follows the lives of three women: Gloria (70-something) and her two nieces Sam and Willow (both in their thirties)。 All three women have their own personal demons and challenges to overcome including a potential FBI investigation, a bad break-up and the collapse of a business。 Told from alternating perspectives this is a fairly pacey read。Initially, I was captivated by Gloria's story - the idea of a long ago love, an art forgery and the impact on her present life was really interestin This story follows the lives of three women: Gloria (70-something) and her two nieces Sam and Willow (both in their thirties)。 All three women have their own personal demons and challenges to overcome including a potential FBI investigation, a bad break-up and the collapse of a business。 Told from alternating perspectives this is a fairly pacey read。Initially, I was captivated by Gloria's story - the idea of a long ago love, an art forgery and the impact on her present life was really interesting。 The problem was, this was far too often interrupted by the other two stories, which really didn't have much going for them。As characters, I felt all three were grossly under developed, which is saying something given how much page space was given to each of them。 Whilst there was some introspection on certain issues it was more like "Why do I do that?", "Oh, that's why I do that", "Oh look, I'm doing it again"。 None of the three story lines really went anywhere, until a neat resolution at the end, which actually, was a bit hammy and a total anti-climax。 Equally, I struggled with the style of writing - there was a lot of repetition, especially over physical character traits (there's only so often you need to be told someone is dainty like a bird, or has wild untamed hair)。 I'll be honest, I actually thought this was the work of a debut novelist。 By no means was this a "bad" book - it was enjoyable enough, easy to read (some personal frustrations aside) but it just didn't have any grit to it, and left me feeling a bit meh。Now I know this is not a debut novel, I'd definitely check out some more of the author's work, perhaps this was a bit of a damp squib (we're all entitled to them)。 。。。more

This is not my normal type of read。 I’m a hard core thriller lover and appreciate that this made it on my radar。 Willow and Sam’s Mom died when they were young and their Aunt Gloria stepped in to raise them。 Gloria chose a career as a flight attendant over settling down with a family。 Willow is a musician that hasn’t quite fulfilled her potential, while Sam built an app company that is now struggling。 Each character takes a turn narrating their intertwined story of secrets, struggles and family。 This is not my normal type of read。 I’m a hard core thriller lover and appreciate that this made it on my radar。 Willow and Sam’s Mom died when they were young and their Aunt Gloria stepped in to raise them。 Gloria chose a career as a flight attendant over settling down with a family。 Willow is a musician that hasn’t quite fulfilled her potential, while Sam built an app company that is now struggling。 Each character takes a turn narrating their intertwined story of secrets, struggles and family。 I was drawn into the rich characters, both their present and their past。 Each of the characters are going through a difficult moment in their life and are afraid to lean on each other。 It was an emotional read at times。 I always appreciate an author that can stir up my emotions。 I shed a tear or two by being drawn into the characters and their trials, tribulations and triumphs。 This book will stay with me for a while。I highly recommend this for the deep rich characters and compelling storyline。 。。。more

Willow is a talented musician who has returned to NYC to live with her aunt after her first album has flopped and her boyfriend has unceremoniously thrown her out of his home。 Willow's sister, Sam, is a prodigy game designer with abandonment and anger management issues that are sending her life spiraling。 Each is so focused on independence and success that they risk losing out on the happiness that life has to offer them。 Well written with layered, engaging characters and a smooth-flowing plot。 。。。more

Told from three perspectives, Write My Name Across the Sky by Barbara O'Neal is an interesting look at family, individual actions, and how it now affects their lives。 Two generations of women who have close bonds, aunt and the nieces that she raised are all at a crisis turning point in their lives。 A family drama with a strong emphasis on the individual women’s emotions, strengths, and weaknesses。While she is long passed the younger women’s mother, Billie Thorne plays a large role in this story Told from three perspectives, Write My Name Across the Sky by Barbara O'Neal is an interesting look at family, individual actions, and how it now affects their lives。 Two generations of women who have close bonds, aunt and the nieces that she raised are all at a crisis turning point in their lives。 A family drama with a strong emphasis on the individual women’s emotions, strengths, and weaknesses。While she is long passed the younger women’s mother, Billie Thorne plays a large role in this story from her career to her apartment to her role in her daughter’s lives when they were young。 Gloria Rose the aunt is the most interesting of the three women。 I found her lives to be fascinating。 While she does not seem like the wounded love soul that her nieces do, she is still at a major crossroads in her life。 Willow is as her name implies but her roots are holding even in the storm of non-success in the music world。 Sam (Samantha) was the hardest for me to like, she hides her hurts, anxiety, and loneliness behind sarcasm and criticism。 I’m sure that this was the author’s intention。 Overall an interesting if not inspiring story。 Realistic and yet fiction too, great fiction at that。 4。5 StarsAn ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 。。。more

She lived such a full life and had beautiful memories of Isaak and to be honest, don't we all wish we had a love like that? The sisters were such direct opposites that it was great to watch their relationship grow and settle into something more。 There is just so much to love about this book and that makes it tough to write a review because spoilers would be so easy to let slip。。。but I will say that I enjoyed these ladies so very much that I would love to have them as friends。 This novel is an immersive experience that touched my heart and my senses in many ways。 I have really liked all of Barbara O'Neal's work, but I do believe with Write My Name Across the Sky she has moved to another level。 I can't recommend this book highly enough。 Do yourself a favor and give it a shot。Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and publisher for allowing at ARC at my request。 All thoughts are my own and happily shared。 。。。more

An un-put-downable read! I devoured this book in a day。 It’s so much more than a book about two sisters who are night and day。 It’s about chasing dreams, failing, living large, making mistakes, forgiveness, and yes, love on many levels。 Beautifully written, engaging, and relatable。 I’ve become a huge fan of Barbara O’Neil’s over the past year and look forward to what comes next!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I suppose I’m prejudiced, because I have loved everything by Barbara O’Neal that I have ever read。 This is not exception! I am in awe of her ability, not only to imagine a storyline and the characters to support, but also to do the enormous research that makes a novel like Write My Name Across the Sky come alive with detail and veracity。 Did I know it would turn out okay? Yes, I did。 But it was so much fun getting there。 I was drawn into that magnificent apartment in New York City where most of I suppose I’m prejudiced, because I have loved everything by Barbara O’Neal that I have ever read。 This is not exception! Yes, I did。 But it was so much fun getting there。 I was drawn into that magnificent apartment in New York City where most of the action takes place。 I felt I knew Willow, Sam and Gloria。 I felt I knew Asher and Izaak and Josiah。 That actually makes it hard to finish a novel, because you don’t want to say goodbye。 But honestly, I can’t wait to find out what O’Neal writes next。 。。。more
