Summary

Truth, Lies, and Second Dates is a sweet and sassy contemporary romance from New York Times bestselling author MaryJanice Davidson。

Captain Ava Capp has been flying from her past for a decade。 She’d much rather leave it, and her home state, behind forever。 But when she finds herself back in Minnesota, against her better judgment, everything goes sideways in a way she never expected it to。

M。E。 Dr。 Tom Baker has never forgotten Ava and the cold case she ran away from。 When she shows up unexpectedly in town, in spite of himself, sparks fly。 Which is terrible because he can’t stop his growing attraction to her。 Can these two Type-A’s let their guards down and work together to put Ava’s tragic past behind her for good? And keep their hands off each other at the same time?

This standalone contemporary romance from Davidson (The Love Scam) is just as raucous and riveting as fans will expect。 Snarky commercial pilot Ava Capp returns to Minnesota 10 years after the murder of her best friend, Danielle, only to discover, at the anniversary memorial service, that Danielle’s family believes Ava was the killer。 To blow off steam, Ava heads to a bar, where she meets and makes out with a hunky stranger。 The next morning she gets a call that the funeral home has been vandalized。 Luckily, the stranger from the night before can corroborate Ava’s alibi—and he’s already on the scene in his role as the county medical examiner。 Quirky Dr。 Tom Baker is determined to solve Danielle’s cold case, and he’s willing to work with Ava to do it, though he can’t be sure that she is not the murderer—but that does nothing to douse their chemistry。 The banter comes a mile a minute, as do the twists, though Davidson struggles to juggle the suspense with the romantic development, leading to some wonky pacing。 Still, the mystery will keep readers turning pages, and Ava’s raunchy internal monologue creates plenty of laugh-out-loud moments。 It’s a wild ride and, despite some turbulence along the way, the destination’s worth it。 Agent: Ethan Ellenberg, Ethan Ellenberg Literary。 (Dec。)

BOOK BLURB A sweet and sassy contemporary romance from New York Times bestselling author MaryJanice Davidson! My Thoughts For me this books author is synonymous with the words fun, humorous, impossible and tongue-in-cheek。 All if which applies but there is so much more to the story as well。 Main character commercial airline Captain Ava Capp is multi-layered, as are her supporting characters。 The way in which there are multiple twists and turns from Ava’s past that affect her present situation were handled with a mixture of mystery combined with comedy as others have noted。 For a third book in a series I never felt the lack of reading previous books to get a gist of what lead up to this story, it just sucked me in on its own merit。 Just when you thought there were no more surprises the story twists again and proves you wrong。 A thoroughly enjoyable read from beginning to an ending I saw coming with a surprise twist I did not。 [EArc from Netgalley]

Truth, Lies, and Second Dates is my 1st Davidson book! I was excited to dive in, and I didn't really look into the book much before starting。The cover and title made me think this would be fluffy。 There are certainly light, fun times, but there was a darker side as well that was unexpected (but not unwelcome)。 Ava has a tragic past that is haunting, but her current life is vibrant, funny, and full! After many years away, Ava returns to her hometown and the source of her painful past。 It is there she connects with the ME, Dr。 Tom Baker。 Together with Tom, she begins to solve the mystery of what happened years ago, find love, and learn to forgive herself。Personally, the romance is light。 Its not bad or anything, but as a hard core romance reader, I categorize this more women's fiction with a romance than straight up romance。 The driving force of the story is in Ava's growth as a character-accepting her past, coming to terms with it, putting it behind her, etc。 Ava and Tom are great, but their romance isn't the focal point。Fans of Kristen Higgins, Janet Evanovich, and Christina Lauren will enjoy this comedy of errors and find it a delightful way to pass a weekend in front of the fire!  t   POV: 1st t   Tears: no t   Triggers: (view spoiler)[Ava was in rehab for drug abuse (hide spoiler)] t   Series/Standalone: standalone t   Cliffhanger: (view spoiler)[no (hide spoiler)] t   HEA: (view spoiler)[yes (hide spoiler)] other low heat romances like Passion on Park Avenue by Lauren Layne, Size 12 is not Fat by Meg Cabot, My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella。。。then you will probably like Truth, Lies, and Second Dates!  Truth, Lies, and Second Dates See full review on The Book Disciple["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]> 。。。more

I often think of MaryJanice Davidson as a paranormal author but she also writes a smart contemporary romance too。 Truth, Lies, and Second Dates is that in spades。 Full of snark and eccentricities this is a fun read。 One not to take to serious which is needed in these too serious times that we live in right now。 Comedy, romance, and mystery, it is all here。While either fight or flight is the go-to for a survival mode of operation, Ave takes this to the limits by becoming an airline pilot。 I found I often think of MaryJanice Davidson as a paranormal author but she also writes a smart contemporary romance too。 Truth, Lies, and Second Dates is that in spades。 Full of snark and eccentricities this is a fun read。 One not to take to serious which is needed in these too serious times that we live in right now。 Comedy, romance, and mystery, it is all here。While either fight or flight is the go-to for a survival mode of operation, Ave takes this to the limits by becoming an airline pilot。 I found it humorous to think of how far her flight mode took her until it didn’t。 Ava has her issues but she fit right in with her friends, all nutty than a fruitcake。 The best part, they know and don’t care。 Even the serious stuff is not handled so serious。 Mel Brooks, this is right up your alley。 Someone should buy the movie rights today。An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 。。。more

Snarky, Action-Adventure, Rom-Com, MysteryThis is such a funny book! It is irreverent, snarky, witty, and fun。 It has some bad language, some graphic sex, and some blood and guts。 The humor is such that it steals the negativity away from everything else。 I enjoyed it so much that I am going to read more of this author's work。 I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review。 Snarky, Action-Adventure, Rom-Com, MysteryThis is such a funny book! Or before she falls for the hunky, on the spectrum coroner? This book brought me pure joy! It was fantastically blunt and real, yet still incredibly hilarious the entire time。 Ava and Tom’s chemistry is undeniable and perfect。 I highly recommend this book to all readers, but especially to those who love the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich! 。。。more

This was a cold case, murder mystery theatre presentation, starring Captain Ava Capp, pilot extraordinaire aka Captain Belly Flopper, and an on the spectrum (maybe) Dr Tom Baker, ME, aka Uncle to Whiz Kid Genius (I totally adored) Hannah, who had more answers than Alex Trebeck AND had more questions。 A ton more characters but these were my faves。 Oh, and Hannah's G-Father, the voice of logic and reason lol。 Ava's BFF was murdered ten years ago back in Minnesota, don't ya know? She got shnookered into coming to a memorial being held on the tenth anniversary of her death。 Well, she meets Tom, who's fascinated by death, hello, ME here, and she learns some very startling information。 That's all I can say without spoilers。 The storyline is serious, but this is told in such a way, you are never quite sure in which direction the emotions might lead。A journey I quite enjoyed taking, along to a happy ending。 。。。more

MaryJanice Davidson Truth, Lies, and Second Dates was a quirky story that I found at times hard to follow。 I saw many moments that could've lead to a much better storyline or even just scene or chapter but at times it just fell short。 In the end I can say I liked aspects of Ava and Dr。Tom but found their chemistry off。 The book tries to tell you they have chemistry but the reader doesn"t "feel" it。 Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion。 MaryJanice Davidson Truth, Lies, and Second Dates was a quirky story that I found at times hard to follow。 I saw many moments that could've lead to a much better storyline or even just scene or chapter but at times it just fell short。 In the end I can say I liked aspects of Ava and Dr。Tom but found their chemistry off。 The book tries to tell you they have chemistry but the reader doesn"t "feel" it。 Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion。 。。。more
